Do you have any other symptoms? Such as a red light error, usually if you only have sound and no image this generally means that the AV cable cannot be detected. Try the following...
1. Make sure that the AV cable is correctly connected to the Xbox 360 console.
2. Disconnect the AV cable from the Xbox 360 console, and then reconnect the AV cable to the Xbox 360 console.
3. Try wiping the
metal area of the AV pack with a dry cloth. The metal area is the end
that plugs into the console. Wipe the metal area thoroughly, and then
try the AV Pack again.
Please rate if at all useful, thanks!

Make sure your av wires are properly connected, it may be faulty video wiring, if not than your 360 is more than likely defected.

SOURCE: Xbox 360 not starting up
If you're using HDMI to connect, make sure the TV is on the correct input as the console will 'wait' for a valid signal before powering up fully (on some TV's).
Also check the colour of the Power Adapter when you have powered up the x360.
Here is a link to troubleshoot the power adapter based on the colour of the light on it:

Hope this helps.

1) Disassemble Xbox 360 Case
Obtain your case separately. By a fine tip screwdriver, poke the grayed out holes and back of poke the small rectangle holes. Get the Faceplate Off and move the latch up on the DVD drive up as you remove it. Unscrew metal case which is under the plastic case.
Following is the image of video (How to disassemble xbox 360 case) which comes with James Dean's Professional Xbox 360 repair guide. If you are not comfortable with instruction you can use this video to disassemble your Xbox 360 case.

2) How To Remove Motherboard Safely
Unplug all cables connected to motherboard and associated small devices and take DVD drive out. After DVD, get the fan and motherboard out of the xbox 360 case. Make sure you do this gently.
Following is a quality video which can show how you can remove motherboard safely.
3) Crucial Motherboard Disassembles.
Turn the mother another side, using the screwdriver snoop off the X-clamp which you can find under heat sink. Check out following an image of a video which came with Xbox 360 repair guide which will make your process easy of "snoop off the X-clamp".
I will suggest you to do this step very gently if you are not comfortable doing this refer following video which comes with James Dean's 360 repair guide.
4) Heat Sink Unscrewing.
After snoop of X-clamp you have to unscrew heat sink to obtain CPU and GPU.I will advice you don't hurry to finish this work, please follow all steps else it will damage your xbox 360. If you are not confident do use Professional Xbox 360 repair guide.
5) GPU And CPU Cleaning.
Next step is to clean GPU (graphic processing unit) and CPU (central processing unit) If you do this step right it will help to stop xbox 360 freezing. This is very important and critical step so just make sure you do it right.
6) Appling Arctic Silver
Now you have to apply arctic silver thermal compound gently over GPU.
You will get this arctic silver thermal compound in any computer hardware shop for $1-$2.
Set it for 15 to 20 minutes then place 2 nylon washers on each screw on the heat sink then place the screws back in motherboard then add two more nylon washers to screws.
Then,
Place the heat sink on the peak of screws then push them down slight, finally screw them up. Try to make it reasonably tight.
Get everything back together and see everything is fitted properly. Now, Turn your Xbox 360 on.
I always like to educate people so I tried to describe a whole process in my words, Videos can make this whole process lot easier.
