SOURCE: How do I format my Western Digital 1T to fat32 for ps3?

Without a firmware update your PS3 needs it to be fat32 as you've noticed, and without the use of a utility Windows will not let you format a 1tb using fat32

You're best be it to download a program called SwissKnife, it's a utility that will allow you to format the drive the way you want

WARNING: Before using SwissKnife to format the drive, you have to take all the data off of it (onto your computer or another drive), if you don't then when you format the drive every file will be lost.

SOURCE: PS3's only read FAT32 USB's however movies over

If you have files that are over 4GB they are not supported on the PS3, this may include 1080p HD quality video that you want to play on your Playstation 3 and cannot because the current FAT file structure does not support files more than 4GB. The answer would be a PS3 firmware update to support the NTFS file system, then you could play 4GB plus video files on your PS3.

SOURCE: How can i format 1TB Toshiba Canvio portable hard

Right Click on your new drive in the Computer

Choose a File System (NTFS is ideal most cases) and give the new volume a name if you choose. You might like to call it something like "Portable Drive," or "Removeable Drive." If not, just take the defaults and click "OK."

You will get one last warning that you are about to format your drive and erase all data. Click OK to proceed. When you see the process has reached 100%, you are done and you're new external hard drive is ready to use!

SOURCE: is alpine going to upgrade the usb formay from

The Alpine CDE-103BT requires only USB media that is FAT12/16/32. You can format your USB medium on your PC to FAT32 then copy your media (music) to the the USB drive.
Insert your USB Drive to the PC On your PC navigate to Start ->MY Computer Then locate your the drive that is your USB Drive. At this time you will want to save any of your data before continuing. All Data on the USB drive will be lost. Next ensure that you have selected the correct drive. Right Click on the drive on go to format... Under File System select FAT32. I would suggest leaving Quick Format unchecked. So you ensure that will information is removed. Then Click start. Next copy your media (music) back to the USB Drive. Insert in to the CDE-103BT Stereo.
Notes: MP3/WMA/AAC files are prepared, then stored to a USB memory. This unit can recognize at least 100 folders (including root folder) and 100 files per folder stored in USB memory. Do not make a file's playback time more than 1 hour.

Hi, Can this Hard drive be formatted to a fat32? If so, HOW? Cheers :)

Hello,

Click Start -> Computer

Hopefully your hard drive will be there. Right-click it and click 'Format'.

Under the 'File System' click the box and look for fat32 or exFat. If it is listed then select it and click Start.

If it isn't there then you will need to format it using a program called SwissKnife:

It is completely free and you can use to format many types of external drives such as USB, Firewire, PCMIA, SATA and SCSI. You can also use it to create partitions on an external hard drive and it formats faster than Windows. Here is the link: http://download.cnet.com/CompuApps-SwissKnife-V3/3000-2248_4-10070864.html

I'm trying to use the GoFlex 2TB external hard drive as additional storage for my PS3 but it won't show up in the devices when I plug it into my play station. I found out it has to be in FAT32 in order to...

I just got the same external hard drive and converted it to fat32 format and had about 65 movies on there when it crashed and is now locked up tighter than hell. I called the repair number and they stated that because I formated it to fat32 they cant help me. but if you still wanna take the risk, here is how you can format it in under 5 seconds. Go to www.Easeus.com, click on the download button at the top, then scroll down till you see "Partition Manager Software"and download from download.com. once downloaded install the program and you should be able to figure it out from there. but warning: fat32 format is "unstable" with any thing over 40gig. Hope this helps

I tried plugging in my WD hard drive to my DVD player to watch movies but the player wouldn't recognize it. Thank you!

First thing is to check what format the HDD is using - if it's been formatted on a Windows box, it's likely to be NTFS - and a lot of consumer electronics devices can't read NTFS, just FAT or FAT32.

Try reformating the drive with FAT32 file system (this is the default facotry mode).

Thanks,
