Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Necchi 575FA runs heavy, wheel barely turns.

Runs heavy by hand, and by power not at all. The hand wheel barely turns. I have oiled and cleaned it. What else can I try? Manual says there may be dirt and lint in the shuttle. What is the shuttle? My manual doesn't identify it.

Take your bobbin and the case that holds it out. Then there are two little levers. You turn those outward. the shuttle will come out. you can clean it out with a can of air and also use your little lint brush. Make sure you put it in the same way. It is very simple. If this doesn't work I think your motor is locked up and you may need a new one. I am not an expert on this but I would take it in as it is alot better machine than buying any new ones. This machine is built to last with all the metal parts in it. The new ones are throw away ****. Also try youtube for a video, as they may show you how to do it yourself or tell you what it could be.

It is the bit that rotates the bobbin case back and forth in a "shuttle" motion.
It sounds like it would be worth exploring the idea that it is time for a service !!

I have a 952 necchi supernova I beliv but I can't get ghee needs to go up a Anne down

1. If you turn the hand wheel with your hand and the needle doesn't rise or fall you will need to tighten the hand wheel.
2. If it is really hard to turn you may need to take the top, bottom and front covers off. Clean everything with rags and qtips. Some places may need carburetor cleaner.
3. Grease all gears.
4. Oil all moving metal against metal parts.
Once it is going make sure again that you have oiled everything.
5. The bobbin case and other parts need to be removed and carefully cleaned. The race (part the hook rides on) needs only one drop of sewing machine oil. Don't oil the other parts.
NOTE: It is an old machine and has probably set in a garage so there may be a build up of rust. To get the machine going you may have to overdose it with wd40. Force the machine loose if necessary. Afterwards the wd40 has to be removed. Oil the sewing machine with sewing machine oil.

Can't turn wheel

Check the area that contains the bobbin. There might be something loose in there. While you\'re in there, clean an oil this area. Also, open the end cover (left side of machine) and lubricate the swivel arm top and bottom and wait overnight for oil penetration; you can also use a hair blow dryer to speed this up. For oiling diagram, see:

try changing the needle
also try using a different bobbin just incase there is something
wrong with that one
make sure the thread is wound evenly on the bobbin or this will
cause problems

I have a Necchi model 549. I have to hand turn the wheel in order for it to start to stitch then it will run, but as soon as I stop it needs to be hand turned again. it will not sew upholstery or heavy...

I have the same machine and have had a similar problem. My belt was just old though. You need a new belt. And once installed it must be adjusted properly for everything to work correctly. I changed and adjusted mine myself. Although Necchi parts are not available from the company any more, there are several places online that carry belts and a few other items. One is The belt shows up under Necchi 541, but it lists compatibility with our machines (549) on the order page. The size belt is 12 5/8"-- with teeth (lug type). While the belt is being changed the shaft that holds the wheel needs to be cleaned and oiled. Also clean up any excess oil in the area with a sewing machine safe cleaning fluid. Clean the plastic wheel with a little dish detergent and water on a paper towel. Oil should not be put, or remain, on any plastic parts in your machine. Not many people want to fix these machines anymore, but I love mine and will probably keep it as long as I can keep it running. Hope you see this post and get your machine running again. Win
