Question about HP Compaq Presario F500 F700 and G6000 Motherboard - 442875-001

1 Answer

I installed a new pci-e networking card on my presario f500. I still am not getting a device listed in device manager for a wireless connection. The wireless was working one day and not the next. I don't know if I don't have the right driver for the new networking card. I bought driver detective and it doesn't seem to even pick up the networking card. Help please. I am computer stupid so baby steps please!

Start by going to add new hardware wizard. When it detects evrything tell it that the hardware is already installed and look for it in the list. Click on it and let the wizard load drivers from the internet for it. Let me know what happens.

Thx

try turning off the comp and taking the card out. Start the system back up and let it load. Turn system off again re-install card and boot it up there should be a new device wizard started and follow the directions from there. Let me know if you still cannot get it to work. Thx

How to I determine what type network card I have?

Hello,
The most common types of network card adapters are for the wired and wireless connections.
Here is the picture of the wired network interface card.

Here's an example of a pci wireless adapter. There are also usb types.

If you want to know the manufacturer and model, right click the My Computer icon, click Manage, and then click Devices. You should see the list of devices installed on your computer.

Wireless not working

Does it have any more letters, etc., in the model ?

I tend to not use HP or anybodies Wireless Assistants. But you ought to be able to see in Device Manager and Networks wether Windows thinks that the wireless card is working or not. Windows uses Wireless Zero Configuration Service to control Wireless Cards. You might have to tell the HP gizmo to let windows manage the wireless.

You might also have to turn the computer over and find where the wireless card is - and check that it is still seated properly in it's slot. That's a pretty advanced thing - and should only be done with the Service Manual or Owners Manual at hand to tell you how.

Mainly the hardware should be showing up in the Device Manager as "working properly" - if not maybe somehow the device driver software got damaged or removed?

You could try using a wireless adapter that connects through usb but the connection is not as strong. Otherwise I would try to buy an internal wireless card which is just installed into a PCI slot on your motherboard.

I have an HP Presario F500. In that Wireless assistant does not open and the button is not working. Whats the solution. I updated the device manager

Try going to Control panel/network connections and see if it shows the wireless lan. if it does then right click and select uninstall. When that has finished reboot the machine and let it find and install the wifi lan again. Now check it. If still no go it could be a variety of problems including the keyboard itself or even the wifi network card

Can't install encore pci wireless card ENLWI-G2

You need to update the driver from device manager and make sure that you browse for the driver from your installation CD because there are times that windows install its own driver for a device liek a wireless adapter.

Wireless card not functioning/disabled after loading XP in a Compaq Presario C700T CTO Notebook PC

The wireless is not going to turn on and off via the switch properly until we get the drivers loaded to make it work. There are 3 possible types of wireless card it could be, so we have to find out the exact model number of your system. On the bottom there should be a label that has a P/N or part number listed. what are those numbers. Here's an example of the label:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00033108&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3632144&dlc=en

or

http://tinyurl.com/35dt4h

we need the info listed for #1, #2 and #3. Then we should be able to determine which adapter you have, and then we can (hopefully) find some Windows XP drivers for you.
