Hey there, it seems you know a little about the troubleshootig. The first thing you need to do is see if the rela is trying to energize by checking for 24v accross the coil while it should be running. I am guessing that with a 1/8 hp this is the condenser fan motor (outside). If you are not getting 24v at the coil is your compressor coming on? You may have a safety switch with a manual reset (usually red button) on the piping under the fan motor or just a broken wire. If this is a heat pump and the relay is located on the circuit board and the compressor is coming on,chances are the board is bad. If you only have 2 stat wires coming into the unit, check for 24v on them wait for any time delays. If it is there and at the coil replace the relay. If the 24v is not outside at all, check iside or try different collor wires, one may be broken. If still no 24v, take the tstat off the wall, turn off both units to kill power, twist the wires from terminals G, Y and R together. This should bring it on. If this is the only way to bring it on, replace the tstat. Also, there may be a float switch in a condensate pan somewhere on the indoor unit. If the pan is filled with water, it will either kill the whole 24v circuit or just keep the outdoor from coming on. Let me know what you find

My Wipers will not turn off they keep running. How do i fix this problem?

Kind of need to know the MAKE, MODEL and year to get very close, ...but most of the time wipers not shutting off is an issue within the motor itself. The intermittent circuit uses the same as off circuit, so eventually it fails to make unit shut off.

Fix problem on carrier furnace heating blower relay click sparks click again got used mother board does same. Did I just get another bad relay or something else doing it?

It is more likely the motor or the fan causing the problem at this point [or you got a bad used board].
First with the power off try rotating the fan by hand to make sure it turns freely. If it turns hard or is stuck you know the cause. If it has places to oil the bearings, add a couple drops to both ends of the blower shaft and the motor shaft and try spinning again by hand. It could be the blower relay contacts are burned and making bad contact or possibly the motor capacitor or start windings are bad. Without a model number, I can't tell what controls your unit uses. At least Carrier is one of the better companies in providing manuals and wiring diagrams.
Carrier Literature Wiring Diagrams
If you are electrically handy, you might try energizing the motor relay without the control board connected, there should be a wiring diagram on the inside of one of the panels.

The fan will not turn on in the unit itself. You can hear power get to the unit. I turned off the breaker and the noise stopped waited a couple minutes and turned it back on and the noise was inside the...

Hi,
Either the relay is bad on the board or the motor has gone bad...what you are hearing is the transformer in there but it has nothing to do with the motor other then run the relays that turn on the motor...so... it could be a number of different things...relay, motor, or t-stat...you will have to have someone or you use an electrical meter and trace down the problem.

Carrier model 38txa024300 ,condesor fan wont oporate with compressor unless the fan is spun befor energizing . is it the dual run capacitor that is bad? thanks for any help. jeff

If the fan spin freely then the capacitor could be bad. Otherwise, if it spin with difficulty then it need to be cleaned and lubbed.

HAVE A PARAGON A706 TIMER IN A OLD CARRIER CHILLER ,THE MOTOR IS BAD, NEED TO REPLACE TIMER OR MOTOR ,CARRIER DON'T OFFER A REPLACEMENT PART NOW,NEWER EQUIPMENT ARE USING CIR-BROADS, GOGGLE THE TIMER...

Here is a new control via e-bay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Paragon-A-706-00-Hvac-Timer-Control-/170621558465 ($99.00)

This is the chinese generic version of the timer:
R 8004-TMDE706SC Problem is.... it is so generic that you must sort out defrost time required periods 115V 230V or 240V.

I have to be honest... you can probably walk into any reputable applicance parts source and find a generic timer much cheaper. (Match them up) What is the model number of the compressor? Per the timer specs.. you should have a 1/3 hp compressor. The LRA (locked rotor amperage) number on the side of the compressor is probably around 21.7 Amps. The failures on older equipment are run capacitors, and PTC relays / thermal overloads. There should be 3 posts on the compressor. C, R and S. You should read winding resistance C - R and C - S you should NOT read resistance C, R or S to chassis ground. (C maybe if it is internally grounded) If R or S read to ground the compressor has failed. Again if you insist on keeoing the unit you can get a generic 1/3 HP Embraco (or another brand) compressor.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Evap. fan motor stays on

Sounds like the control board is bad. Does the fan try to run when the tstat is off. Did you check the tstat. What kind of voltage are you getting at the fan motor. Did you check the capacitor. If you are getting voltage to the motor with no call for fan then the control board is bad. Let me know if you need any more.

1985 carrier unit stopped. all fans spin freely.

Trace wiring out from fan motor back to relay or contactor. On the relay or contactor check with a volt meter and see if you have power to the fan motor. If you don't, you need to check the coil on the relay or contactor and see if you have power on the coil.(24V,120V,230V whatever is marked on the name plate). If there is then replace relay or contactor. if there isn't the control circuit is probably open and it is likely the high pressure control. You will need to locate this and reset it, if it is a manual reset, or it is possible there is another problem
