Will it boot? Fan spin? LED's blink? Sound? Try connecting to a external monitor, does it show desktop? The screen is all black, no cursor at top left? No "ghost Image" in the screen when viewed in a bright light? I would look at the inverter board, backlighting, ribbon cable in the rear of the monitor, the LCD screen, your laptop has some miles on it. Not sure about a fuse on a laptop motherboard, don't see that often. Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's
different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't
boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it
just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper
left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot
menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to
the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.
Hi wincel03_dar , I see that you are having issue booting into your Windows, I can help you with your concern. You mentioned that you get a black screen with a blinking cursor on the upper left, this means that either your Hard drive is not detected by the motherboard or Windows is not found, see steps below.
Turn your Laptop ON then keep on tapping F8, you should see a screen windows advance options menu, hight light and select Last Known Boot Configuration then press Enter
The Laptop will restart, see if it will boot into Windosws
From shut down turn your Laptop on again then keep on tapping F12 this will give you a Boot Menu Screen.
Once you have the boot menu screen Select ATA HDD it should be the first on the list if it is not located then the Hard drive isn't really detected.
After selecting the ATA HDD press Enter this should boot into the Hard drive, if still it does not boot and it gives you the same black screen with a blinking cursor then you can try reseating your Hard drive from the system.
Reseating meaning Remove it then wait a couple of seconds then put it back in properly then try turning the machine on again.
If still he issue is the same and you get a Blinking Cursor then it can be two thing either you Hard drive has gone bad or your motherboard could not detect your Hard drive. To find out you can try and use your Hard drive on a different Laptop if the data from your Hard drive works on a different Laptop then your Hard drive is OK and that the problem is your Motherboard not be able to detect your Hard drive and need replacing. I ope that this will be able to help you with your concern, Thank you choosing Fixya. mvincentc

Its seems its not booting correctly. Just Insert Windows CD and fix the windows. Another solution is to press (I think) F1 or F11 or F12 (depending on the model) when booting the machine. It will take you to recovery mode. Use it to restore the boot section ONLY.
Open your system and fix any cable inside the system, maybe gor a loss connection. i guess that hard drive not detected. so fix it. please tell me what happen next i will surely give you more solution in it.
do not rate me if this not solve the problem.
at last remove and clean the memory fit it exactly to the slot.
