Question about Pioneer GM-5300T Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

I have a Pioneer GM-5300T amp wired to a 10 inch kicker sub. The music plays throughout the speakers of my car but the sub goes in and out. I noticed that the amp's power light dims when the sub goes in and out but does not go off completely. My ground is attached to the frame of the car and I scraped the paint away. I also checked the system control wire that connects to the head unit that is fine. I do not if it is a short in the wiring or what? I would greatly appreciate any solutions. Thank you

I appreciate your feedback but I do not believe it is any of that. I bought the amp and sub off of one of my good friends so it has been used but during that time there has not been any problems. I believe i simply just blew something in it even though i have not turned the bass boost all the way up and tried to keep my head unit at a reasonable level of volume. I had the amp and sub working for about two months in my car and it started going in and out about a week ago. I greatly appreciate any feedback

Hello pburgfootbal,

You do not specify which Kicker sub you have or how it is wired to the amp. The GM-5300T is only stable to 4ohms in bridged mode and if your sub is a 4ohm DVC with the coils in parallel, it presents a 2ohm load. If the sub is 2ohm DVC with the coils in parallel, the load is only 1ohm. Either configuration would be too low of an impedance for the amp in bridged mode. I'd check the sub specifications and make sure that the wiring configuration properly matches it to the amp.

Hope this helps.

Does the enclosure volume and style/type match the sub requirements? Are the subs wired correctly? I've seen lots of marking on the wrong terminal. Try switching one of the subs from pos to neg and neg to positive. It will be dramatic and very noticable if that's all it is.
Is your cutoff frequency correct for the sub? Make sure they're not getting full spectrum frequency. Are the Subs physically hitting any part of the enclosure at any point in the excursion? Are they screwed securely to the enclosure? Is the sub surround intact and smooth through the full extcurion? Is the amp ok? Got enough current throughout the system? Battery, Capacitor, Wiring, fuses, speaker wire etc. Bigger is better but always the correct fuse rating.
Signal from the head unit? Proper preamp wiring?

I have a kicker ix 500.4 hookd up to polk audio 6x9 and 6.5. if you play the system past about 25 volume the subs will keep playing but the speakers will cut out for a few seconds as if its hiting the

Make sure your frequency is no higher than 80 on the low and 120 on the high. Check speaker polarity with a AA battery(Speaker pops out when polarity is correct) Make sure the speaker crossovers are working properly. Check your ohm load when you connect the speakers together with a multimeter at the amp. Ohms that are too low = heat. See what your amp is rated for. After all that, turn the gain down all the way, turn up the volume to 25-28 and readjust the gains

My pioneer gm 5300t amp cuts off at loud volume and will not kick back on until it is turned down and cools off, what is wrong with it?

You are over heating it,You have your speakers wired up for a lower,(OHM) Rate then the amp can handle, That why it cut out when you have it turn up

Are subfoofer ts-w308d2 and amplifier GM-5300T compatible with each other?

Yes. You will be able to run this setup with the sub bridged across both channels of the amp, which will give you more power (which the sub will be able to handle: 380 watts rms), or with the sub wired to a single channel, which will give you less power (125 watts rms). The sub can handle 400 watts rms.

I parelled one 15" q power subwoofer to my brideged pioneer amp.The amp got really hot and blew a fuse. How should I wire my dvc subwoofer to the briged amp.

Hello sir, hi, YOU DON'T bridge no more speakers, this upsets the impedance load of the amp. to install another sub-woofer, get another amplifier. You may have damaged your power amplifier, If you experience repeated fuse blows, your power amplifier is now SHORTED. This needs IC amplifier replacement.

Ok, without knowing if you have the 2 or 4 Ohm Dual Voice Coil (DVC) version of the subwoofer, I'm going to assume you have the dual 4 Ohm version. The reason why is because, assuming you have the Pioneer GM-5300T amp, that amp does not support an 8 Ohm load. If you wire it in parallel, that would give you a 2 Ohm load. Parallel will be solid red connected to red/white dot, then to amp +, and solid black to black/white dot to amp -. Without knowing more specifics on the amp, that should fix the problem. Let me know what you get.

What car amp to use to run 2 dvc subs

You need a stereo amp that can run 400amps
continous, with an output of 4 ohms. These should
not be too hard to find and they are getting smaller
all of the time. Make a practice look on ebay.
They give you pictures and you can check the dimentions first, so you know it can fit between
your two deck lids.

Amp just abruptly stopped working (Pioneer GM-5300T)

Apart from the external DC power fuse (I hope you have one in-line), the majority of in-car amps have 2 mini fuses inside the unit to protect the output MOSFETs from overloading due to incorrect speaker connections, ie, if the output impedence is rated at 4ohms, anything less than that is considered to be a short circuit, and will overload the MOSFETs. After performing the tests suggested by KaeZoo, open the unit and look for printed markings on the circuit board, something like F1, F2, the fuses may not look like conventional fuses.
