Oven will not relight

Hi. This is quite common with gas ranges of this nature. I will list the most common culprits below:

1. Gas valve coil assembly malfunction(Most likely culprit)
2. Ignition Faults(damaged ignitor)
3. Oven temperature sensor faults(unable to read oven temp)
4. Main logic board or PCB damage(Control board issues)

I would advise to unplug the unit for five minutes. This will induce a hard reset that will reset the main board. Once this is done, plug or reintroduce power to the unit and try to preform a normal baking session. observe the ovens actions. If the faults persist, Start your troubleshooting by checking the sensor(oven temp sensor) for faults. Make sure that the contacts are connected properly, and not loose, or corroded. If all the wiring checks out, test the sensor for the correct resistance readings.(you will need a multimeter for this test).

The most common oven sensors should be approximately 1100 ohms at room temperature. Other temperatures are as follows:

100F - 1143 ohms
200F - 1350 ohms
300F - 1553 ohms

(You will essentially want to test it at room temp)

The sensor is, generally, located inside the oven, mounted on the back wall, on the top right, or left corner. There will be two screws holding the housing on the back of the oven wall. Once the screws are removed, the sensor will need to be extracted from the back side of the unit.

If the sensor checks out ok and the wiring is connected without any faults, move on to the other areas of concern. I will list the other procedures below.

We have a Maytag CRG9700BAL. The Oven Will light and come to temp but will not relight to maintain temp. We have replaced the oven temp sensor and the clock assembly but the problem persists. Could the...

The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. This video will walk you thru the correct procedure for testing an oven igniter. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Kenmore SF367.....Contantly relighting during cooking?

This is a normal function of your gas range. I own a similar model and it operates the same way. The gas is not required to be on continuously to maintain the oven temperature and will relight periodically when the internal temperature drops below the prescribed set level.

Oven temp

You could have a weak oven ignitor. If it has a "glowbar" style ignitor they get weak after while and will light once or twice nd then wont be drawing enough energy to open the gas valve on subsequent attempts. You can check only with a clamp on amp meter. If under 3 ampa replace the ignitor.

I use the plastic zip ties to hold connecters on cars fairly often I would think this part of the oven is cool enough.

This range has worked fine for over 3 years. We use the oven a lot, the broiler not often. Last evening after using the stove for several things, then the broiler very briefly, both of them stopped working. The "Preheat" display comes on, then you hear the loud click (which I assume is an electronic valve), then instead of hearing the burners ignite, you get another loud click, no ignition. The stovetop burners all work. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Following up on my own question here, I found a document online titled Whirlpool Gas Range Direct Spark Ignition System, which applies to this range. I got a multimeter, followed the directions in the document. Seemingly this procedure indicated this Spark Ignition Module, which controls both the broiler igniter and the bake (oven) igniter, was bad. Then, just to be thorough, I tested the double solenoid which is part of the electronic Gas Distribution Valve which runs gas to the bake burners and the broil burners. The broil terminal was dead. This manual says if one is dead, neither will operate. The solenoid is tested when it is disconnected from the oven. The solenoid IS connected when you test the spark ignition system. So, my tester showed two problems, and for either one, the manual says replace it. But, it's hard to believe both parts went bad at the same timel So, I hope the gas distribution valve solenoid is the whole problem. Anyway, I going to replace that first, and see what happens. Does that make sense?
