Frigidaire for Kenmore Freezer-Compressor won't start

Compressor will not turn on, checked power coming in ohm'd out compressor, both fine. Interior & exterior lights work, thermostat doesn't illuminate or indicate temperature. Belongs to a church-lady who bought it new in 2007, and is cooking for a wedding for 200 next week and REALLY needs it working ASAP! Please help!

It was previously suggested that the defrost timer may need to be reset, but I could not find one. The only thing behind the bottom front grate is a power status light. Where is the main circuit control panel located?

Set the thermostat to the coldest and check if there's power to the compresor relay , if yes the relay or the compresor are bad (in this case replace the relay which is the cheaper first step ,but if the compresor still won't start probably is burned out) If there isn't power to the compresor put a jumper wire to the thermostat if the compresor runs replace the thermostat.

SOURCE: Kenmore Freezer Model 253.26732104 Compressor

the defrost timer may need reseting. when the defrost is on, it cuts power to the compressor so they don't run at the same time. it's usually behind the bottom front grate on the right side. also check the main circuit board. there's a fuse on it.

Hello,I defrosted my electrolux chest freezer and now problem is power is on but not freezing, alarm light keeps coming and keeps bleeping every 2 minutes and goes off and on

Is the compressor running? if it is running, but there is no cooling, it is time to buy a new freezer.
If the compressor is NOT running, I would suspect the compressor start relay.
How did you defrost it?

I accidently turned off freezer. How do i turn it back on?

Turn the interior temperature control back on by setting at approx halfway between "off" and "coldest". (Make certain the branch circuit is hot - you should hear the compressor turn on when you set the control, possible an interior light will come on as well).

If the freezer does not run, check to see if you accidiently pulled the flash defrost plnger (if equipped). (See age 8 in your manual).

Freezer not running at all

You will need a meter. I wouldn't worry too much about the light unless you realy need it. There is a good chance some moisture has got into the connection and ruined the switch. But if you have no light and no compressor running I would have to check where the main connections are for power to the freezer. If you have power to the receiving end of thempower cord then I would move to the t-stat to see if the contacts are closing when you turn it colder. If they do and you have power through the t-stat then move to the compressor. Pull the little black cover off of the compressor when the power is off for safety reasons, then plug it in and check for incoming power to the compressor. If it is there then you may have a faulty compressor or overload or relay. But that is a slim to nun chance. Probubally the compressor. To check the compressor pull all of the wires off of the compressor remembering where they go( unplug freezer first). Then use the ohm meter and chech across all three terminals. Two terminals will have a low ohm reading 1-5. Then the other will be 5-10 the the last will add up the the others if it woes not then the compressor is shot.

good luck

Compressor will not come on

Check that the freezer has power. After that make sure the thermostat is turned down low. If it still isn't starting, listen for any clicks like its trying to start. If no clicks, replace the start capacitor or thermostat. If there's clicks like its trying to start, try a hard start kit for your freezer, or you might just need a new compressor

I have a Frigidaire upright freezer. Power coming into freezer. Light inside works, and the temp setting on the door works. Not getting any power through the system to the compressor.

Contact a professional. The power supply source needs to be testing to the compressor and see if the power is fine, or if the compressor is faulty and not drawing needed power.

I have model TFU12MOAW3 upright freezer and it does not run. I tested the voltage from the freezer control to the compressor relay and I have 120 volts. Could tell me how I can test this relay (P/N...

Hello,
The relay can be tested by putting meter leads in the 2 holes on it where it attaches to the compressor and it should be closed (zero ohms of resistiance) if you have the rectangle one thats how to test it. If its older style and has the wire coils on top of it must turn it upside down but still closed w/zero ohms.

to test overload thermostat disconnect it from compressor and it to should be closed with zero ohms from spade to where wire connects to hole where it connects onto prong on compressor.

both the realy and overload should be removed from compessor to test

if both check good test compressor by one meter lead on prong where overload fits onto and other on one then the other prong. Both the start and run winding on compressor should be between 5-20 ohms if either is open compressor is dead

Freezer fan on compressor off

They make generic "compressor packs" to solve these. Your capacitors and relay and parts that support the compressor operation went out.

If you're really really like just the temp overload switch went and you can jumper bypass it. It usually looks like a piezo electric type of disc connected right onto the comp case itself.

But you're right with the DT, the motors go out on them a lot. They are usually for 4/6/10/12 hours depending on make and model. Sometimes the contacts go So if you could isolate them... they're on the larger side and will go from the power to the compressor. Use a jumper and test for a complete circuit to the plug and through the compressor before trying it.

By law all freezers and ovens have to have a schematic diagram on them. Often it it in a little plastic package and sometimes just wallpapered to the inside of a large piece of sheetmetal in back.

Good that you know how to use a meter!

No it is not the timer. You may have an open overload protector at the compressor. Check across the overload for a reading with an ohm meter. If it reads zero it is good, if not replace it.

Not Freezing, but cold

The thermostat should be a close circuit when requesting cold temps. or when asking the compressor to come on. The exterior surface on some freezers warm when asking for cold inside. Yours has a condenser coil on the back and that should warm when cooling. If compressor is runningit should be wrm if no freon has leaked from freezer somewhere.
The defrost timer should rotate clockwise during the day and give approx. 3 defrost daily or about every 8 hours. Until the thermostat is resolved and asks for a closed circuit the compressor will not come on. Unplug freezer from outlet, remove thermostat wires, then turn the thermostat to its coldest setting and check again. If no closed circuit the thermostat will need replaced first. Hope this has helped you, Sea Breeze
