Question about HP OfficeJet G55 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

No copy/no scan

Whenever I initiate a copy or scan, the scanner mechanism just oscillates back and forth about 1" until I hit cancel. No scan occurs, don't get "Scanner Error" or any other indication. Tried taking it apart, cleaning the disk on the motor, lubing the rail, checking for loose cables, cleaning the scan tube with a Q-tip and alcohol, checking the glass for a loose decal - even removed the scanner belt and moved the mechanism back and forth to make sure it wasn't stuck - all with no effect. I don't think it's a driver problem because it doesn't work when pushing the Copy button either. The Print functions are unaffected.

Any other suggestions besides scrapping it?

Did that ... no change. It appears that it initializes and finds its home point just fine. It's the little motor (to which the clear 'colimator' wheel is attached) that seems to only make a few revolutions before reversing itself ... over and over. I suspect the scanner mechanism is not the problem; either the motor is not reading the wheel right, or the message isn't getting through, or ??? I haven't opened the body of the box to check the boards inside ... not sre what I'd do ifI did!

Komguy, thanks so much for your help. It's been a frustrating problem, to say the least. How do I do a "full reset"? I might as well give it a try ... !

Down inside that scan assembly are mirrors and a lens, one cover to snap off. Try cleaning the lens, and mirrors, shining a flashlight straight down you can see a sort of fog on the glass. Also the white strip on the underside of the glass needs to be clean. After that you'll have to check around for a new scan assembly.

Sounds like you've done it all, The main logic pcb sees those signals from the encoder, I've tried new motors and encoders with no change, Full reset sometimes wakes up the logic board again, but a logic board from a scrap machine may be your best bet...

Epson gts50 wont stop scanning until paper jam occurs

I just started having the same issue. However, I don't think the problems was understood. You can one sheet of paper; that's all you need to scan. The scanner will not stop until it has cycled through 8 scans and which point it will then prompt that a e1: Paper Jam has occured. You can hit ok and still safe the document, but it is annoying have to go through the cycles or hit cancel to stop the cycling (at which point you can then still save the scan). I believe Alan and I are both looking for a solution to resolve the issue.

Mine started after a serious paper jam. I am in a rather unique situation as I have to requested elevated priveledges to down load/update any drivers. So personnally I am trying to find a way to work around the issue.

Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
