My Tom Tom 710 has gone blank without warning. It was working, connected to the car, I switched it off and when turned back on there is no display at all. The power light illuminates when connected to the car, however, there is no display either connected or not. In simple terms, the device will not switch on. Can anyone help?
Try these 3 things - wait at least 20 seconds before trying the next step: * Reset the device, you may need to use a paper clip to do this, then try the power switch. * Remove the SD card and re-insert it, then try the power switch * Hold down the power button for about 5 seconds.
Try reseting the device by inserting a paperclip or pin in the hole in the bottom hold in for 15 seconds. Try the power button again on top. If still no display, look real close for a really dim image (you may have to hold at some angle to see) and any starup sounds. If so, it means to device is still "alive' but the display may be bad. This is usually associated with the unit becoming too hot on the dashboad or other reason. If no display at all or sound, the unit itself has failed.
Either case is not good, it will usually require you contacting Tom Tom support for a replacement (if still under warranty) or repair. There is one other thing you can try, which support will want you to try before return. Is if you can connect it through Tom Tom Home through the computer and reinstalling the application software, if the unit is still "alive" and will connect through the usb to do so. Good luck!
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Hi, i did the same thing with my tom tom 300 go, i fixed it by borrowing my mothers sd card from her tom tom 710, i put the card into a card reader and copied the hole card to my computer then copied it back onto my sd card out of my tomtom then put in mine and bingo it worked with all the fetchers that her tom tom had and the updated maps it still said it was a 300 but had the 710 stuff try this it worked for me it should work for you.
Is the unit connect to a power cable while you're using it? Sounds like the battery just runs down. Check your power cable, is it properly connected to the cigarette lighter adapter? Maybe your cigarette lighter is defective and the unit is not gettting power, therfore running on battery all the time
