The unit is brand new--used only three times and now it will not even start up. It's essentially dead.

Take it back to the seller and have it fixed. It is under warranty and any interference will void warranty

Gpsmap 180 firmware corrupt

It sounds like it has lost its memory battery. Usually you
would get a "memory battery low" message as it is on its
way out but you don't mention that so perhaps it has
completely failed.

The battery is rechargeable - if you leave it switched off
and loaded with a fresh set of alkalines for a few days it
may recover. If not contact Garmin as they have replaced
many memory batteries free of charge even out of warranty.

Hello.. i have a 376 C and when i start it it sais System Sofware missing.. and it dosent do anyting else

Hello
the "System Software Missing" problem could be solved by perform the following steps:-
1. Power off the unit.
2. HOLD down the power button and you will see "Pre Boot Mode" appear on the lower part of the display. KEEP HOLDING the power button down and the display will flicker, do this until the pre boot mode message disappears. This seems to take a long time (60 seconds at least).
3. Once the pre boot mode message disappears release the power button and your device will perform some activites to recover from the above problem.
If all else fails, you could always contact Garmin for help.
Good luck

GPSmap 60Csx power up problems

I had the problem where I ended up disassembling the Garmin and adding a small piece of plastic to the on/off button. For some reason the push button on the top does not reach the one on the circuit board.

The gps does not boot

Use with caution: This will delete your user data on the unit.

Try a reset:
  • Hold QUIT pressed when turning unit ON (will delete waypoints, routes and tracklogs)
(This worked for me when I had a similar problem.)

You could try a master reset;
  • Hold Zoom-OUT + QUIT + NAV and power ON. Hold keys for 10-12 seconds.
  • You lose all almanac and temperature compensation tables (it
  • reconstructs itself but takes time - several hours)
  • Be patient - it will take HOURS for the unit to recover
Fair warning: I have not personally tried the master reset.
