Question about Maytag Refrigerators
Control panel blank, shows 8s when press and buzzes when press water dispenser flap, inside lights work. Ice dispenser flaps once when plug back in, then nothing. Sears parts direct first suggestion was the start relay so i ordered and replaced, although part sent is questionable (part unprotected in box delivered in). Is there a reset or way to test the defrost timer, control board, main board to figure this out?

Testimonial: "Thank you David, would you believe I plugged this in a few weeks ago and after a cycle of some sort worked beautifully up until yesterday afternoon and believe happened after the freezer door was shut too hard, just not sure, but I am sure sad is not the word for how I feel that it's not running again."

See the post on Samurai Appliance Repair Man's site http://applianceguru.com/forum1/13035-1.html for instructions on how it's possible to fix the HV Controller Board power supply filter caps for $5 in Radio Shack parts (really!). You need to be able to solder electronic components, or know someone who can. There are 2 power supply filter caps that appear to go bad and the result is the blinking and flapping. I had the same problem and decided I could not wait for a $150 replacement back-ordered board.

There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

I had to pull the J3 connector off of the control module located just behind the dispenser panel. That eliminated the cycling and the flashing lights. Maytag guy came out and told me there is a control board located on the back of the refrigerator. Circuit board cost is $180 and installation labor another $300. I think because the refrigerator and freezer are still functional I will not repair this problem at this time.

SOURCE: Maytag Ice20 refrigerator
Thanks, Solution #3, for the phone number ((800) 688-9900)! We, too, have the Ice2O refrigerator, and the HV Board started the disco light show last night. Followed instructions above to disable it, which temporarily solved the problem. Was on the phone with Maytag (Whirlpool?) this AM, and their initial response was that they wouldn't cover anything since we are out of warranty. I had to be extremely firm with my expectation that all parts and labor would be covered. Sent the rep back to her supervisor several times until they agreed to cover both. If you find yourself in a similar situation, don't give up until everything is covered. This is a design issue that should NOT be impacted by an expired warranty!
