If thermostat is stuck open will it make your engine cooling fan run constantly?

im assuming your speaking of the engines internal thermostat ? if this sticks open (not likely) then temp gauge on car will never reach operation temp and stay low on scale ( entire purpose of thermostat in first place) now if your coolant fan switch sticks closed (very likely) then your fan will run constantly and only shut off with the key

also another condition that makes them run more often is that engine temp gauge is over normal (showing) and this is an indicator that cooling system has a problem and needs service

How do you know when your thermostat goes bad on a 96 gmc suburban

Generally it sticks open and the engine does not warm up, or it sticks closed and the engine overheats. It can also stick in between.

How can you tell if your thermostat needs to be replaced or is bad?

The engine either runs cold (sticking open) or it overheats (sticking closed). If it is overheating there are allot of reasons besides the T-stat.

Thermostat staying to cold not goin up to half way then dropin back down 'somtimes just stays at bottom

  • Sounds like your thermostat is stuck OPEN. Most the time a thermostat sticks closed and makes the vehicle overheat from lack of circulation. A thermostat can stick open also and you won't get any significant heat in the vehicle from over circulation. Might want to replace the thermostat.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Car engine temparature always show high, last two weeks temp is normal, some times come to high.i found water very hot in radiator,

Sounds like you need to replace thermostat. Thermostats open and close accordingly to engine temps. When reading goes hi usually indicates thermostat is sticking open, recirculating hot coolant. Now you mentioned it's been reading normal which makes me think this thermostat is not working consistent. So I'd change it now before it overheats and causes alot of damage. Regarding hot water in radiator, after running any time it's going to be hot, normal engine temp is around 195 degrees.

plastic lining on runners tend to crack and lift causing roof to stick. can remove plastic but roof will rattle when closed. to close manually, open small cover on roof lining in front of sunroof and crank roof closed with an3mm allen key.

remove panel and to get at solenoid...electric door openers are simply a plunger thatpulls back ,same as your solenoid on the starter, these can get rusted or dry causing poor working order...spray with wd 40 and operate several times before closing
