For this solution you will need another working PC and an additional thumb drive.

I would recommend purchasing (there is a trial version) an application that will make a flash drives bootable. Creating a bootable thumb drive is a bit complicated without the program but do-able, however I much prefer using a program made for doing it. It's fast and easy.

You can also create a bootable CD or floppy drive, but I prefer thumb drives.

I use boot disk creator. it allows you to turn any disk into a bootable disk. There is a trial version http://www.ntfs.com/boot-disk.htm

This application will allow you to reformat or even repartition the drive, in NTFS, Fat or Fat32. Once up and booted to the thumb drive, you should be able to access your other drive and run it's applications. This program will even access the internet if you need it. It is full operating system.

One huge caveat, your computer must have the ability to boot from USB drives. If you have a PC that was manufactured in the last several years, chances are that its BIOS will allow you to configure the USB port to act as a bootable device. You will need to go into the BIOS (setup program prior to Windows) and change the boot order. During boot you may have to choose the USB device to boot from.

Computer is running real slow and cant find restore disc to redo computer

Hi dmwm1996

There is a few things you can do to speed your computer back up...
1...Clean up your hard disk...
Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup

2...Defrag your Hard Drive...
Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter

3...Add the maxium amount of ram to your computer that is allowed

4...Clean any old programs, files, pictures, etc off of your computer that you no longer use.

5...Last but not least...
Your computer may be loaded with spyware, virus's, trojans, etc. and that will make your computer run slow also.
To get rid of any spyware, virus, trojan, etc you will need to do the following:

Download, install and run Microsoft Safety Scanner...
It will clean your machine of spyware,virus's,trojans,worms...and the best part...it's FREE
Go to the following webpage and download Microsoft Safey Scanner.

Tip

How to make your computer work faster

  1. Eliminate computer viruses as well as spyware. In many cases, viruses and spyware programs cause computers to run slowly. This is the reason that you can't overestimate the necessity of programs that combat viruses and spyware.

If you do not install them, your computer will be more likely to experience one of many possible problems with its performance.

Run these software programs regularly so that viruses and spyware can be immediately detected and removed from your system. Also, make sure that these programs are always up to date so that your computer is protected from the latest versions of viruses and spyware.
  2. Step 2Clean the registry. Computer start up and shutdown processes become sluggish if the registry becomes corrupted. To make your computer run faster, its registry needs to be kept clean using registry cleaners that can be downloaded from the Internet.
  3. Step 3Defrag your desktop computer. Defragmenting or defragging the hard drive of your computer regularly can make a huge difference in its speed. This will fix performance malfunctions, which are often the result of fragmentation in the operating system.

To defrag the hard drive, access the Disk Defragmenter program in the Start menu.
  4. Step 4Remove temporary files from your computer. Every time you use your computer, it stores temporary files in your hard drive. And once the hard drive is cluttered with many temporary files, your computer speed will surely be affected. Delete the files by going into the Start menu and opening up the Disk Cleanup application.

L500 blaster worm keeps shutting down my laptop, keeps bringing up a spyware program then shuts cant open task manager as it closes as soon as it opens cant open explorer either

Hi
You have a virus, worm, trojan, etc on your computer.
Keep tapping F8 to enter Safe Mode as the computer is starting.
Once you are in the Safe Mode then go to the following website and download, install and run the FREE Microsoft Safety Scanner.
It will remove the virus, trojan, worm, etc from your computer.
It may take quite a while to scan and repair your hard drive, it depends on the size of your hard drive.
Once the Microsoft Safety Scanner is completed running, it should have removed the virus, trojan, worm, etc. from you computer, but if it didn't remove the virus, trojan, worm, etc. from your computer then it will give you an option to connect (real time) with a Microsoft professional (FREE) and he will take over control of your computer (with you permission) and finish the removal process.

How do I wipe my hard drive? It has been hit by a virus and most of the programs no longer work. I need to clean the hard drive and reload it. Do I need to format it first?

Hello,

You can perform a clean install. When you are asked if you want to reformat , say YES. That way all will be erased, and the virus also.

Hoe it helps

I have a MY BOOK Model WD25001032 External Hard drive and it's Corrupt and if I plug it into my computer it will screw up my computer as well. I just had to reformat my computer because of it and I'm...

Unless you put something on there that is capable of damaging your computer like some form of active virus / trojan / etc I cant see how it would screw up your computer.

Start with your computer alone and ensure it is free from any virus / spyware or other undesirable. note that you will need more tan one program to deal with the issues I have listed

for antivirus Kapersky, ESET, NOD are about the best (norton and mcafee rate badly)

for spyware etc. then malwareantibytes and superantispyware are my
choices.

Once you know YOUR computer is 100% clean you should disconnect as many external items as possible that use USB or FIREWIRE.

Then plug in the drive
at this point do not try to look at the contents just use the programs you used to clean your computer to check out the drive.

If it checks out of you should get anything you want to keep off it.

You are now ready to format it.

Go to control panel / administrative tools / computer management / disk management. Note that we have not looked at the drive at all and will not until we are done.

Make sure you select your external drive. You should be able to right click on that drive and select format when it offers the type select FULL format and also turn off the assign drive letter option before you click ok and when its done you should be ok and where you want to be

Norton security does not stop what it should

If you have another computer system around, remove the hard drive and plug the drive into the other system. Scan the hard drive using a virus scanner.

Some viruses are difficult to remove otherwise.

I would recommend Kaspersky as an Antivirus system and proactive scanner. It has not failed me yet. It has a 30 day trial (I think its 30 days) that you can try.

It helps the antivirus system, to have your computer free of infections (viruses, spyware, etc.) before installing any antivirus software.
