The brush bar motor or one of the switches may be defective. If the brush is not spinning it will not pick up anything from carpet leading many to think it has no suction. Feel for suction down by the brush bar. If you have no suction it may have a clog or need new filters. Make sure the changeover valve that switches suction from floor to tools is working properly.

SOURCE: vacuum turns on and suction

If you hear the motor in the head running and the beater bar isn't rotating, you probably need a drive belt. With the power off, make sure you can rotate the beater bar freely by hand, if it isn't bound up.. then locate and remove the baseplate screws to gain access to the beater bar itself, you'll see a drive belt pulley system and chances are, a broken belt. Replace it with a new one by pulling the beater bar assembly out of the housing and plcing the belt onto the motor shaft pulley as well as the beater bar pulley.. nest the beater bar back into the holder and reinstall the cover. Hope that helps !

SOURCE: beater bar on Dyson upright won't turn when handle is lowered

I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.

OLD IS IN NEW IS JUNK!

Happy New Year!

SOURCE: dyson DC 14 lost suction to beater bar/ suction to hose/stick

My Dyson DC14 had no suction...see if this works...turn the Dyson upside down...there is a length of hose that connects the bottom of the vacuum to the top, careful remove one end of the hose and check for debris...mine was clogged. Removed the clog and voila...it works. Thanks for the above info on checking the hose for cracks.

SOURCE: Bissell Beater brush sporadic

I was having the same problem with my Healthy Home vac and happened to read a solution to another question on this site posted by someone with the user name "9008". I followed his suggestion and my vac works great again. There is a screw on the back of the handle near the cord holders that can loosen up over time. When this screw is loose, the brush switch (and therefore the brushes) do not work properly. I'm not sure why this little screw causes such a big problem, but it does. To find this screw, look on the back of the handle, it's on the edge, kind of behind the hose. You should see a triangle with a Phillips screw-head symbol embossed in the plastic. Tighten this screw gently (careful not to over-tighten and strip it!). Also, not a bad idea to tighten the other screws...I found many of mine to be quite loose. Hope this helps!!

My V20 stick vacuums beater bar runs for a little while then quits, I've cleaned the bar by removing the bar to clean the dirt, strings and ect and also took the end of the bar off and cleaned it also

It's good that you have cleaned the beater bar and the end of it, as this is often the cause of the problem when the beater bar stops spinning.
If cleaning the beater bar and end of it did not resolve the issue, there are a few other things you can try:
  1. Check the belt: The belt connects the motor to the beater bar and if it is damaged or stretched, it can cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check the belt, turn the vacuum over and locate the belt. If it is damaged or stretched, you will need to replace it.
  2. Check for debris in the brush roll housing: Debris can sometimes get stuck in the brush roll housing and cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check for debris, remove the brush roll and look for any foreign objects that may be stuck in there.
  3. Check for a clog in the hose or the suction path: A clog in the hose or suction path can also cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check for a clog, remove the hose and use a flashlight to look for any blockages. If you find a clog, use a broom handle or similar object to carefully remove it.
If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, it is possible that there is a problem with the motor or another internal component of the vacuum. In this case, it may be necessary to have a professional repair it.

Dyson canister DC39 - beater bar won't spin once it touches the floor

Some models have the beater bar driven by the airflow from the vacuum rather than a small motor. It takes a lot of suction to turn the brush roll. Make sure there are no restrictions which will reduce the airflow and suction. Replacing the filters may help if the vacuum motor still has adequate suction.

I have a kenmore model 116.25512506. The roller is spinning but no suction from the head. The attachments have suction but not the head. How do I remove bottom cover to check for blockage?

Is the suction control plastic ring shut?. If it's wide open you get almost no suction. See picture.
25823072-bhx41vpbxgcw2fhkwng0wody-1-0.jpg If that is closed check the long metal wand. Disconnect from the beater bar head and check the whole length of the wand and look into the beater bar head opening for something plugging it.

Dyson dc40 brush bar not turning

The wind tunnel cones at the top of the vacuum need to be cleaned. There are eight of them I believe. Also there is a round foam rubber filter between the cannisters and the top of vacuum where beater is. As far as bar not turning, there is a switch that turns off the beater bar so the vac can be used on hardwood floors

HOW TO CHANGE DRIVE BELT NO SUCTION FROM UNDERNEATH

the drive belt only controls the beater bar if the bar is spinning the belt is fine.
the no suction problem is probably caused by an obstruction in the line , the most common place that this occurs is where the handle pivots from the power head, if the tool hose can not be pulled at this location, remove the cover for the beater bar and you should be able to reach obstruction from there

It has no suction...

Assuming that the vacuum will run, remove the bag and check the discharge to the bag from the machine for debris. Also check the suction to the vacuum blower by removing the beater bar cover plate and beater bar. Inspect the belt. While the bar is off, inspect the suction hose behind the beater bar. This is where I usually find the debris.
