Why does my 2009 2.0 dodge caliber only fire on the front two cylinders the first time I start it up and after I cut it off and back on only the back two cylinders fire

Hi anonymous, the link below is a short youtube video on how to replace your coils....If you don't know which coils are faulty just pull a spark plug lead off a spark plug and plug the spark plug lead onto a SPARE spark plug, Now earth it to the CLEAN motor or body (make sure the spark plug is touching metal) Turn the motor over using the ignition, If the spark plug doesn't spark then replace that coil.....CHEERS..

My car is mis firing and it have no power

When was the last time you changed the spark plugs and the plug wires themselves? My car ran like new when I did that to it.Some old wires were shorting out and the plugs were burnt out.

My Polo Classic 2004 1.6 is misfiring. There is a smell of petrol and the car is not accelerating rapidly.

Check carefully for fuel leak. If it starts well and then gets worse as it warms up, check coolant temp sensor. May be it just smells like fuel because it misses so badly fuel is not being burnt and floods tailpipe. Check spark at plugs with timing light to avoid sparks where fuel may be present. Weak or irratic spark can be coil/module, crank/cam sensor. Remove plugs to see what they look like or which is not firing.

Engine won't start

that is an extremely broad subject you have on your hands. you could have up to 50 odd issues leading to it not starting.

to troubleshoot this you need to know an engine needs oxygen, fuel and spark to burn alongside compression. but if its compression your out of luck.

the barebones simplistic options are below

first to check is spark. simply get a spark plug socket and locate your spark plugs, tear one off and get someone to try turning it over while holding the spark plug plugged into the lead against the motor nearest to the hole you just took it out of while being able to see it. if you see little blue flashes you are getting spark.

second issue can be fuel if it has spark, simply smell the hole you just pulled the plug out of. chances are you are going to smell exactly what you usually smell while refuelling. if there is no or a weak fume smell its likely fuel. if it is getting ample fuel the smell should have you just about reeling away from the car from the strength. if you do not wish to smell then find your LONG kitchen lighter and light it up then get someone to turn it over a few cranks with the lighter over the spark plug hole holding it to one side. it should give you a quick brief burst of fire as the petrol burns off. do not look over the top of the hole as the burst of fire can easily reach 3-4 feet away from the engine.

third issue is oxygen. remove the air filter and check for extremely serious buildup of grime. if removed and engine still does not fire then it has become an electrical issue not a mechanical issue and that is best left to pro auto electricians.

what exactly was the car performing like immediately before the car stopped starting? was it shuddering? sluggish? pulsating?

What causes a backfire

Gases in the engine exploding at the wrong time, Ignition timing set wrong, misfire putting un-burnt fuel into the exhaust system, then ignited by hot gases. Most common fault, is an ignition cross fire, where a spark plug is fired at the wrong time, happened mostly with high tension plug leads breaking down in damp conditions and shorting across each other, causing the plug to ignite gases in the cylinder at the wrong time when a engine valve is open.

Put batt. in backwards by accident, replaced alt. and alt. hot wire as they were burnt up. but wont start, motor turns over but wont crank. could it have burnt up solenoid

check ignition module, you may have fried it, if motor turns over the solenoid is o.k. -- your probably not getting any fire to the plugs, check to see if you are getting any spark at plugs

I changed spark plugs 04 Hyundai Santa fe

Check vacuum and/or electrical connections at the fuel pressure regulator, usually located on the fuel rail near the line from the gas tank. It sounds like your regulator is being held 'wide open' by too much vacuum or no signal from ECU.

Miss fire in cylinder 8 . already replaced plugs & wires

is there spark coming out of coil when running? ck compression? and then the fuel injector is next on the list. have a shop that has a tech2 scanner check it, or they they can do a "injector flow test" and see if its opening and flowing when commanded, could be plugged.
