First remove the battery and press the power button for 60secs and then start without the battery. If this doesn't help then continue...1. Remove media from your floppy and CD-ROM and reboot.
2. Boot into BIOS and see if the hard drive is recognized. Load defaults and reboot.
3. Boot from your XP disk, then select recovery console. Enter these commands:
Code:fixboot fixmbr4. Reinstall Windows XP (you will lose all of your data, so this step is completely up to you.)
The final problem would be your HardDisk.

I would not recommend you to format your other drives [d or any other] as suggested by karandhir...it's illogical and you will lose all your data.
Formatting C would be more than enough.Google and search on how to reinstall your Windows OS.

all you have to do is get your windows installation cd. insert it and do as it says. then format the c ,d and all the drives you've got. after that assign a particular memory space for the respective drives and continue with it. it's easier then it looks. go for it. that should fix your problem

Forgot startup password

For the Windows password you will need to reformat your hard drive. If that would not be done or if there is another way of removing the password without removing and reinstalling the operating system or of using your laptop by working around, windows password does not make sense at all. Hope this helps. Thank you.

Cmos password for ibm r40

You will have to remember it. IBM puts a security chip on the motherboard, the bios password is burned into this, and there is no way around it. There are a few places that will replace the chip, but they are very expensive. The only other way is to replace the motherboard. I've found that replacing the motherboard is cheaper than having the chip replaced, so, if possible, remember the password.

This issue showed that the harddrive is not found. Try to fixed hardware connecting from harddrive and the board.
did you see hard drive detected in the bios at start? if your are sure that the connection cable is firmly fixed and the hard drive still not detected by the bios. so there is a problem with your harddrive. you should/may replace that.On the other hand if in case your hard drive is detected and still thesame problem encountered. then, you should reinstall your operating system by inserting the original operating system recovery/ windows bootable installation disc to refresh the state of your system.

any problem srising this solution please notify me.
