Question about Philips HTS3544/37 Theater System
Philips hts3544 dvd tray doesnt open and no sound out of speakers. I can switch all different modes but there is no sound on any of them. When I hit the DVD mode and "open" it doesn't open. I've had a problem with the DVD for couple months now. When I switched to DVD mode the whole unit shut down and I had to unplug it from the wall for couple minutes. Back then the sound was working fine. Now when I switch to DVD it doesn't shut off but I can't get any sound on any of the modes. I don't really care about the dvd function, I would like to get my sound back. Any ideas???

You may also need to change the speaker set up. Go to DISC setting (one of the top selections on the remote) make sure you have no Disc in the DVD player. When in this mode press setup on the remote. On this menu you will have a option to adjust the speaker volume.
I had to increase my speaker volumes to get better sound. This setting is not accessible if you try to do the set up in other than DISC setting. Be sure to check the SURROUND setting. The SURROUND button on the remote will toggle between stereo and surround as stated in a previous post.

Go down to your local RadioShack or any place that sells wire of any sorts (heck, even Walmart might carry it now) and ask them for speaker wire. I'm not sure what the impedance of this particular model is, but you should be able to find it printed on the back of the speakers, or in your user's manual. This guide will help you to identify what size speaker wires you need, that way when you go in looking for speaker wire, you'll at least sound like you know what you're doing.

The speaker cables for the LX3600D are: (+) is blank, whereas (-) has slightly shaded bands along it. Once you see these bands its easy to open up the connector and check they are the correct way around.
