Question about GE Ovens

3 Answers

Regarding my GE Profile Electric Oven, five days ago when I was boiling a pot of water, it overflowed and some water leaked onto the led control area. After that the led screen beeped and various number/letters popped up. The range still works. Now, five days later, the oven is locked, will not unlock and the screen says "FC". Can not unlock the oven.

What do you mean by "if the door lock tests okay"?

Would this type of error be due to the water spilling?

    Where is the relay board?

I can not open the oven to get the model/serial number due to the error, so I am not sure how to replace the part.

  • laurelwhite Jul 31, 2009

That's my problem. Once I got the error message, the oven door locked and I can not open it to get the model number. Where does to the relay board go? If I unplug it will I be able to open the door?

  • laurelwhite Aug 01, 2009

I looked at the bottom drawer and did not see it but I looked online and I think that I found the oven same according to the picture. The model number that I found is JS968TKW. I looked at the parts website that you sent me but I could not find a relay board.

Where on the oven is the power board? Is it under the led?

Can I buy the part from the parts website you mentioned (I still can not find it there) or do I need to go to GE. I know that GE is always more expensive?

    Thank you.

The water is still causing you problems. The oven latch is wet. Get a blow dryer, set it on high and blow dry the area of the latch until it opens. Good luck.

    Thanks for your response!!

It might or might not be due to Water Spilling. The error code that you got, is an indication that it's the time to change relay board.

The picture of relay board is :-

    http://www.repairclinic.com/dbimages/000...

You can get the part from many sites like :-

    http://pcappliancerepair.com/newfindform...

    Or

Tell me the model number so that i can find the part for you?

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your response!!

Open the drawer on the bottom there will be a sticker with the model number and serial number located there.

If unable to find any sticker, Try unplugging and oven the door. Or check if you can find manual that was offered alongwith this oven. The model number would be written on that.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for our response!!!

    Is it js968tkww or JS968TKW?

The first one is the correct model number as far as believe.

    Call Ge at :-

    Call 1-866-775-4557

    to order part.

Relay board is also known as Power Board.

Order the part and it would fix the issue.

Be sure that the error on your screen is F-C.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks.

The water may shorted the contacts on the timer control.

FC means :Problem with door lock circuit such as pinched wires between control and door lock switches on motorized lock circuits.

If the door lock tests OK, then either timer board assembly or wiring harness must be replaced.

To get parts and diagrams enter model number here.

Let me know if you need further help, and please do not forget to leave feeedback.

You cut or disconnect wiring from timer pcb , take out solenois , and test with a multimeter if the doors switch wiring have continuity checking impedance with a multimeter.

Ge profile dbl oven keeps reading error message F7. Put cardboard card around ribbon cable on back of controller as advised a year ago on this site. We have moved it & changed it and now it works...

Hello,

The F7 error code means that a button on the touchpad is stuck. What the proper repair procedure is,is to first replace the touch pad and if F7 returns replace clock (also known as eoc or control board) Do not take this wrong but a no point in my 30 years appliance repair career exchanging info with my coworkers or even factory trainers at training sessions have i ever heard anything about putting cardboard around the touchpad ribbon cable.

Not an oven problem. If I have an aluminum pot that is VERY DIRTY[COKED ON BLACK]can I put it in my self cleaning , [when I clean] to clean it? thanks

we used to only put our iron pans in...especially if your aluminum has a black handle you won't be able to do this. The extra heat may also further discolor aluminum. Sometimes soaking the pan in baking soda and hot or boiled water works well. Good luck!

Stove top burners on glass stove seem to have a governor on them

My initial attempt at solving the problem was to contact the GE customer service phone line.  When I explained the problem, the representative had no clue how to solve it, and referred me to the service organization.  The representative at the service organization was equally clueless, and suggested scheduling a service call at $100 plus parts and labor.
This is all quite disappointing; these customer and service representatives obviously have no training in solving the simplest of problems.  This is okay if GE's goal is to maximize service revenue.  But, I can tell you I would be very unhappy to have a technician visit my house, for $100, only to be told I was using a pot or a pan that was designed incorrectly for a glass cook top.
I solved the problem by going to the web site www.geappliances.com, opening the user manual, and looking under trouble shooting.  The first problem mentioned is exactly as described above.  The problem is inappropriate cooking appliances.  It is not possible to transfer heat efficiently if the pot you're using has a rim or lip on the bottom.  That is, the pot must sit flat on the glass cook-top, it cannot be raised off the cooking surface by a lip that elevated the pot from the surface.  These pots are designed to be used with gas flames, not a glass cook top.

Missing manuel Code showing - F 2 -

hi,
F2
Oven over temp - exceeded 590F with door in unlocked position or 990F with door locked - If actual temp condition occurred, look for welded relay contacts or high resistance connection or any cause in the oven temperature sensor circuit

F2
Note: Also see fan thermal switches - Indicates that oven is over temperature in one of the following modes within either a cooking or clean mode of operation.
· Control senses oven temperature above 650 degrees F with the door circuit in the unlock mode.
· Control senses oven temperature above 935 degrees F with the door in the locked mode.
· Stalled cooling fan or airflow problem.

· Look for welded relay contacts. (Heating elements on in off mode).
· Look for open thermal switch in lock motor circuit. Switch is normally closed and will open if area overheats due to fan not operating. Look for cause - fan thermal switch not closing, fan stalled, etc.
· Look for high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit due to high contact resistance (poor terminal crimp, deformed terminals, loose connection) or intermittent solder joint on control or intermittent oven temperature sensor.
