Question about Yahoo Mail

1 Answer

My "from" address is not stable

Hi there:
I use the paid Yahoo mail plus for my webmail although my real email address is through comcast.

When I compose an email, my junkorama@comcast.net address shows as my "from" address, but if I forward a message, the "from" box shows my ardenls@yahoo.com address which I don't want used.

Several email lists (Google groups) only recognize the junkorama address and bounce back my messages. How can I change the settings to permanently nail down the visible junkorama "from" address????

thanks arden

    They are both approved:
I have 2 email addresses: the yahoo one and the comcast one. I have indicated that I want to use the comcast address as my PRIMARY address (in my account settings).

I'm required to have a yahoo address because I'm using yahoo email service so I have indicated that it is the "optional" or "secondary" address.

In my Yahoo accounts page I have 2 email addresses listed:
    1. the yahoo address because of my membership in yahoo email.
    2. my comcast address.

I have chosen the comcast address as my PRIMARY address to be used at all times.

I have checked the accounts page and the comcast address is indeed selected as the primary one to be used.

Which is why I'm wondering why the yahoo address pops up in the "from" line, sometimes but not all the time, when I reply or forward mail, but not when I use the compose feature. Thanks in advance...arden

Pop3 ;imap ;HTTP setting for incoming and outgoing mails in my pc for yahoo

The regular Yahoo! Mail accounts (US) do not provide access via the POP3, SMTP and IMAP email protocols. So you cannot access a Yahoo! Mail account with a standard email program (e.g., Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird), unless you take some additional steps.

Here are some options that can provide the type of access you are seeking:

(1) Yahoo! Plus - paid upgrade
Yahoo offers a paid upgrade for its email accounts. The "Yahoo! Plus" account provides POP3 and SMTP access; the cost is $20/year. For details see:
http://overview.mail.yahoo.com/enhancements/mailplus
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html
(BTW, I'm not sure that's a particularly good deal, but it is relatively simple to implement.)

There are also some free work-arounds which will allow email programs to access a regular Yahoo! Mail account.

(2) YPOPs! - free software
This program is a "POP3 gateway", which allows Yahoo Mail to be received and sent via any standard email program. You'll need to download the free program and install it; then configure both the Yahoo account settings in your email program and in YPOPs, so they will work together. For details and download, see:

http://ypopsemail.com/
For configuration guidance, see articles at:
http://ypopsemail.com/documentation/37-email-configuration

(3) WebMail - free Thunderbird extension
If you use Thunderbird as your email program, there is a free extension which will allow access to various webmail services (including Yahoo). You'll need to download and install both the basic WebMail extension and the Yahoo plug-in; then follow the instructions to configure them for your Yahoo account.

Problem to add ymail/yahoo account in Thunderbird

If you have a standard Yahoo! account (US), that does not allow direct access from email programs such as Thunderbird. (Yahoo does not provide the standard mail protocols -- POP3, SMTP, IMAP - which are needed.)

Yahoo does offer that access for its premium "Yahoo! Mail Plus" account. There is an annual fee of $19.99 for that service. See details at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mailplus/overview/

However, there are some free work-arounds which will allow access to a regular Yahoo Mail account via Thunderbird

(1) WebMail - http://webmail.mozdev.org/
This is a free Thunderbird extension, which provides access to various webmail programs (including Yahoo). You'll need to download and install both the basic extension and the Yahoo plug-in; then follow the instructions to configure them for your Yahoo account. See details at

(2) YPOPs! - http://ypopsemail.com/
This is a POP3 gateway, which allows downloading Yahoo Mail into any standard email client (such as Thunderbird). You'll need to configure both the Yahoo settings in Thunderbird and the YPOPs program, so that they will work together.
See articles at:
http://ypopsemail.com/documentation/37-email-configuration/60-thunderbird

Hope that's helpful.

I am not able to send or receive my Yahoo mail. I

Hi
Follow these steps.
ncoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., user@yahoo.com)
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

If you want to use Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird or other third party email clients to view your email you have 2 options.
Subscribe to mail plus:
http://billing.mail.yahoo.com/bm/Upgrade…

or download and install YPOPS
http://ypopsemail.com/

then follow the directions for your version of outlook here,

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/or…

If you have trouble with set up, check the YPOPS installation page for alternate set up instructions.

http://dbeusee.home.comcast.net/
Click on YPOPS link on the left.
Then Click on Configuring email clients towards the bottom.
Choose the appropriate link for your mail client.

I currently utilize version 2.0.0.4 of Thunderbird
and version 0.8.3 of YPOPS (there is a more recent version of YPOPS that you need if you are Yahoo Beta Mail) and have no problems.

Email set up problems

from the data you have given, me, it sounds like you are using Either Outlook, or the bundled Windows Mail service.
What is happening, is that an email your program is trying to send, an email with "test" in the subject line, but is unable to because it cannot connect to the server. looking at the string, I see several problems. make sure your settings are configured a mentioned below:
  • Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995)
  • Outgoing (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)
  • Account Name/Login Name: your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
  • Email Address: your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., user@yahoo.com)
If this doesn't resolve your problem, refer to this page for more information. (Note: if you do not subscribe and pay in to a "Yahoo Plus" plan, this could also pose a problem, as Yahoo does not allow you to use third-party email programs with their "free" service, as they like to restrict it to webmail only. If you want a free email service that *does* however, I strongly suggest you check out google's Gmail service [what I use])
