I recently tried to play a dvd by connecting my onn portable dvd player to a CRT TV using the AV OUT jack on the side of the device. I'm not sure, but I think the device is sending PAL TV signals (instead of NTSC signals) to my TV. (The frames on the TV roll vertically, which, I've been told, could be because the TV is receiving PAL tv signals rather than NTSC signals from the AV OUT jack on my onn brand dvd player.) Would a PAL to NTSC converter box fix this problem?

Hi hari,
A mod-chip will resolve this issue on your PS2.
SOURCE: tv built-in dvd player wont play thru surround sound
use your t/v audio out with RCA cables to your reciever input like(vcr in, dvd in, dtv in)

You'll need to buy the converter. Ebay usually has them for the best price around. If you wanna keep the hdmi they're usually around $200 for the converter. You could save yourself a bit of trouble depending on your situation by just selling your pal ps3 and getting an ntsc version instead.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Best of Luck!

While a modern PAL TV can display NTSC sources (namely DVD players and PAL VHS players that support pseudo-NTSC), an NTSC TV can not display a PAL source, unless it's an expensive multi-standard TV. Sorry pal, bad choice.

I have the same problem. I get the "Mode Not Supported" message on my Samsung pn50b860 when I try to run the PS3 through the HDMI. Any solutions/suggestions yet?
