The best solution is a good marine GPS unit. It will have options to plot your course and give you elapsed distances. I don't own one myself, but many of the people I paddle with do...and it's fascinating to see how many miles are added just bouncing back and forth across the missouri or the mississippi during a putatively 20 mile jaunt.

Just remember, even if it claims to be water proof, a clear drybag is your friend...why put "water proof" to the test if you don't have to?

I had a second hand engine put into my xtrail I was wondering how I could check the accurate kms travelled on the engine without actually seeing the donor car?

You can't. The donor car's computer/odometer would have kept track of the mileage. The engine would not be transplanted with anything that kept any usage records.

Odometer disconnect

The only way to rollback the odometer is to replace the cluster with lower miles. Unplugging would kill the whole cluster. The ECM keeps track of mileage also. You can have it read and see if it matches the odometer.

Will a dent on the bottom of a Venus to effect the boat's ability to track a straight line?

Oilcanning is a fairly common problem usually caused by improper storage or transport of your kayak, especially if it's hot out. Gently heating your hull (either by laying your kayak upside down in the sun on a warm/hot day or by using a heat gun CAREFULLY) MIGHT pop the dent out. If you were dealing with a single-hulled kayak, a little gentle pressure on the area with the dent while it's warm/hot would definitely do the trick. Not sure how I would approach a double hulled kayak, but it would probably be a combination of heat and pressurizing the inside of the hull or heat and water on the inside of the hull...would have to experiment.

Do the miles transfer when changing cluster on 2004 mazda 3

A magician might be able to do that, but no mechanic can. Whatever miles is on the cluster from the previous car-that's what your "new" mileage is. Write it down when installed, then you can always figure the true miles on your car and engine by comparing the old cluster's odometer with the new one. See? The old odometer is the true mileage. Whatever miles you put on the new odometer should be added to the old odometer's miles to give a true mileage of the car and engine.

My gas gauge does not work

Easy fix, fill it with gas, write down the odometer mileage, keep track of it and after 150-250 miles put gas in it. Dodges are notorious for this problem. If you are lucky you can just replace the gauge in the dash. If not, you have to drop the gas tank, empty the gas out of it, take it apart and replace the float in the tank. My suggestion, keep track of your mileage. I have done this and it just sucks to fix it.

THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LITE COME ON WHEN I PUT GAS LIKE A LTTLE AFTER I START TO DRIVE WHY????

It's a "service reminder" based on your current mileage (odometer) Check your owners manual vs your odometer mileage and you'll see what's required for service.

Short in the odometer

Check on line for information on how to repair loose solder connections in cluster. I read that the solder connections come undone and that is why the odometer works intermitantly.

Length og a kayak

The longer the boat the faster the hull speed. So if your friends are paddling kayaks that are seventeen feet long and you are in a twelve-foot kayak, you'll be paddling much harder just to keep up. If you intend to paddle on smaller bodies of water, say ponds or small lakes where distance is not a factor, length is not so important. But if you live (or plan to paddle) on a bay, then you should consider more of a touring boat which will track straighter and move through the water with greater stability as well as speed.
