I have a Woods Zero Turn Mow n Machine powered

I have a Woods zero turn ''Mow n Machine'', 52 inch cut, finishing mower, powered with a Briggs 18 H.P. air cooled, Vanguard engine. The engine starts sometimes, but not at other times. The last mechanic said he traced the problem to a bad wire.
It started doing it again, as soon as it was back from the shop. Once started, it seems to run reasonably well.
We have replaced the seat safety switch, brake switch, ignition switch, fuel pump, and fuel filters in the past 2 or 3 seasons.
The engine and mower have almost 2000 hours and is approx. 10 years old.
The current battery is about 4 years old and has lasted much longer than any other batteries.
Sometimes it seems to start better when it is cold than after it has been running and turned off.
Please help if you can.

The Vanguard two cylinder has two coils, the kill wire for each coil has a diode in it, when one goes bad and allows the currant to go both ways the two coils can now see each other. The simplest test for this is to unplug both coil kill wires at the coils, with them unplugged you cant shut it off with the key. If unplugging them fixes it then you can buy a new wiring harness or hook a wire two each of the spades on the coils and touch them to a grounded surface when you want to shut the motor off. Yes I know /// Thank You Briggs for fixing something that was not broken .

Try taking the cover off to get to the fly wheel and use some fine sandpaper or emery cloth to clean off the magnets on the fly wheel and the two little prongs that set really close to the fly wheel.
My white wouldn't start right away and I did the above and now it starts great.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks

If this is a zero turn machine there is a pinch bolt at the bottom of the lever, this can be tightened to remove the slack.

My Snapper 48" zero turn is running batteries dead. I just replaced the battery cut my yard once and the battery is dead. What are some possibilities?

The charging circuit is faulty and is not charging the battery when the engine is running. Best case is a bad connection or frayed cable, worst case is a faulty alternator.
