My central air conditioner is making a whistling noise in the inside unit when the compressor is running. It's not the blower because the noise stops after the outdoor unit shuts off. It's also not blowing...

Hello,
If there is no cooling (meaning no cold pipes and not blowing cold air) then check the outdoor A/C for any visible/obvious issues; breakers not tripped, no debris blocking the outside unit from passing air through it, etc. If all looks ok, you can start checking some things inside of the unit if you feel comfortable doing so. Also, most indoor heaters have a higher speed/rpm for the fan when the cooling kicks on, and the heat runs on a lower speed/rpm.

Hope this helps James

Have an 80 Gal. 2 stage compressor outside, below freezing temps with 100% humidity. Running 2 DA's, they keep losing air pressure inside the DA's, hose pressure is good but DA will not let air past the...

Mark,

First bring that compressor in from the cold. Any water it collects in the tank is freezing and reducing the volume of air it can hold.
Second, it sounds like water is getting to the DA and freezing at the inlet. Will also be solved by bringing the compressor inside.
Third, put the filters at least 25 feet from the compressor if possible. And make sure all lines from the compressor to the outlets are running a little up hill. This way any water that gets in the pipes will run back toward the compressor
Fourth, At each station have at least 4 inches of pipe below the fitting with valve on the bottom. This way any moisture that gets to the end of the pipe has someplace else to go rather than the air tool.

This will not only make your tools run better but they will last a lot longer.

Want to check for leaks and recharge a dometic rv roof unit 2007 compressior kicks in and out and not cold

They are a sealed unit, and you would have to get a Refrigeration tech to install valves to do so, which usually costs close to replacing upper unit (roof unit).
A few things come to mind in your case.
- Are you getting proper 120 AC Voltage?
- Has unit been cleaned recently, as in filter, evaporator, condenser ? Any of these plugged can cause it to shut down.
- is it freezing up due to improper flow from discharge ducts, as in have you closed too many ? Remove filter at ceiling and have a look at coils/fins, at front for frost forming on them when it shuts down.
- How long does it run before compressor kicks out, and how long before it comes back on?
- Does it feel cool when compressor kicks in?

Get back to me with more info if you can, so we can narrow it down better.

Model ck42-1a compressor won't come on. I replaced the intake filter about a month ago. It was a pleated filter and was real caked when I replaced this month. Can that cause the compressor to go out? I...

The fact the filter was very dirty and the door partly open allowing non filtered air to enter the system leads me to a possible dirty evaporative coil on the furnace. That can cause poor airflow and iced up coil reducing airflow even more. In the long run can damage the compressor to the point of failure.

My outside a/c condensing unit's fan runs, but inside vent air is not cold. compresser may not be running. inside vent air was cold last week. Janitrol ckj361ab is model # of outside unit.

Start the unit and go outside to see if the insulated pipe is sweating or cold, hot air should be discharging from top of outside unit. Since the breaker is not tripping, my best guess is the compressor is not operating. You might have to replace the capacitor.

If you can hear the compressor operating, then most
likely needs refrigerant

Cold air blows outside and hot air inside

Make sure it is in cooling mode. Sounds like you may have a problem with the reversing valve but you would want to check the pressures in the system first and make sure the charge isn't low.

Hardly blows cold air

use a heat gun to melt the iced pipes before using it again. have your aircon's thermostat checked/replaced. the thermostat's supposed to stop the compressor at a certain temp. which is before it freezes the pipes

Goodman Model CK60-1C with White Rogers mercury tube thermostat

The contactor on the outside unit is sticking and must be replaced. The inside unit cycles off and the outside continues to run causing the refrigerant lines to freeze up.

Goodman unit freezing outside the unit

Its not the thermostat.

The things that can cause this problem are lack of or poor airflow over the Evaporator coil. Or a low system charge. Or quite possibly a restriction in the line on the low side. When they replaced the compressor did they purge the line set with nitrogen and pull a deep vaccum? This is imperative when replacing a condensing unit to ensure that no residual particles are left in the line set to create a restriction.

Hope this helps You

Compressor lines

If the large line returning to the compressor is frosting you don't have enough air circulation. Check air filters on inside unit.
