Question about Fantom Drives 120 GB Hard Drive

Light blinking from Blue to Red

Same problem as another poster. Was working one day and down the next. Faint clicking sound with the light switching from blue to red. Computer doesn't recognize it but it doesn't really seem to power up in the first place in order for that to even happen. Help!

Is it expensive to get someone to do data recovery? It was a 160GB drive pretty much full of music, pics, etc. My iPod was my backup but it crapped out a couple days earlier so I restored it and wiped out all the data. In retrospect, it probably wasn't my iPod at all so now my backup is gone too. Took it to a local computer place this morning to see if it was just a power problem or if it's truely gone. Haven't heard anything yet...doesn't sound like it will be good news though.

OK...so I mentioned to the computer guy what I'd read here about just putting it in a new enclosure. He did and said it worked! Now just waiting for them to order me one of my own, should have it back later this week so we'll see if everything is intact. Keeping my fingers crosssed.

  1. 99 times out of 100 this means the hard drive has crashed.
The clicking sound is the key. If the data is critical you may need a specialist to retrieve it, if not, you can take it apart and replace the drive.

External drives with IDE drives get very hot because there is no fan in them usually. I recommend leaving it off unless you are using it. I have had hard drives crash on several very expensive ones...and they are usually only warranteed for a year.

Yes to answer your question it can be pricey as in up to about $1000.
Do some shopping, google data recovery crash or something similar you may find it for a couple hundred.

I also have a fantom drive 250 GB and the led also flickers from red to blue. I took out the drive and installed it on a computer as a slave and I was able to access the files though DOS. The only difference is that mine was not clicking and that is a big difference. In conclusion the flickering only detects failure. Disk recovery is very expensive and there are tricks on the net that you can Google and try. I have not tried them, so I can't share the experience. I can't believe these things do not have fans, or at lease a warning letting consumers know that they should not be kept on for long periods of time.

Samsung TV (model UN40H6203AF) 40" LED. No picture, have sound. Flashlight test can see faint menu screen. Have replaced power supply & main boards to this point. Ideas as to what to do next?

Hi Terry,

If you can see the faint picture in flash light means the power supply and the main board is working. The real culprit is the backlight. Even one bad LED in the backlight will switch off the whole array. To repair this fault the panel has to be opened and the defective LED or LEDs are to be replaced.

This is a complicated, delicate and risky job and must be attempted by an expert only. You may end up damaging the screen permanently if you have not done it before and try to DIY.

With these units, if the earpiece battery is allowed to run down, it will switch off. When the earpiece turns off the base station starts to search for it, which is indicated by the flashing red power light. Also the blue light on the top of the base will turn off. The first step, which you have already done, is to charge the earpiece. Next, hold down the little black button that is on top of the earpiece for about 5 seconds. You should get a slow flashing blue light on the mic boom. Wait for about 10-20 seconds and the base should automatically find the earpiece. The red power light on the base will be steady and the blue light on top of the base will come on.
