SOURCE: Vacuum shuts off

It sounds like the hose from the bottom part is plugged. The motor has a high temperature protection that will shut the motor off if it overheats but will come back on once it cools. The motor will overheat if any restriction of airflow occurs. If the overload sensor reacts too many times, it will eventuall start to shut off before it should, so you should address the problem asap. Check the area behind the roller and the hose leading up to the connection to the attachment hose for blockage. Also, make sure you are not setting the machine height adjust too low. This will make the bottom plate sit down too close and cause a restriction in air flow to the motor.

Check for a blockage between brush and entry into dust chamber, if something has not made it's way to the dust chamber could result in low suction1

SOURCE: Vacuum works fine when using the attachments, but

Greetings,

There could be a few things that would cause your Dyson to do this. I will give you detailed step by step instructions along with pictures on how you can diagnose this problem.

Possible Problem #1. The first problem is extremely common to see. In fact, we probably see between 2-3 of these exact problems each week. It mostly happens after people take the bottom plate off of the vacuum cleaner in order to clean the roller brush. What happens is that when they go back and reinstall that bottom plate, it gets put on incorrectly. It's actually extremely easy to do. When the bottom plate (soleplate) is installed wrong, there will be a gap between the bottom plate, and the agitator housing that the roller brush is contained in. This causes the soleplate to be a few inches higher off the ground then it should be, also preventing the brushes from even hitting the carpeting. This makes it seem to the user that vacuum has lost suction power because without the brushes hitting the carpet, the machine will not pick up very much, but when they use the attachment hose there's plenty of suction power.

Here's a picture of the WRONG way to install the bottom plate from a customers vacuum that appears to have done just this. Notice the gap in between teh two housings:

Here's another picture, this time of the RIGHT way to install the soleplate:

8b953d0.jpg
You should definitely check the first possible problem first. I would say probably 6 times out of 10 this is the problem with the customers machine. If you checked the soleplate and it is installed correctly, move on to the second possible problem.

Possible Problem # 2. Turn the vacuum cleaner upside down so the brush roller is facing upwards. I found the easiest way to work on it is to put it on a counter top or work bench. On the left hand side behind the roller brush you should see a flexible transparent hose that goes from the vacuums motor to the agitator housing. This hose actually has a lot of strain on it when the vacuum cleaner is in the upright position. When the first few series of Dyson DC07 models came out, they didn't make this hose long enough, so when the vacuum was in the uprigth position, it would cause too much stress on this hose, and cause the hose to actually crack, usually right where the end of the hose connects into the agitator housing. Examine your hose and see if you have any visible cracks in this hose. If you need to you may just remove the entire hose assembly by pulling on it. It will easily come right out of the vacuum so you can see it better. Here's a picture of where the hose usually cracks:

54cb5e5.jpg
This would also explain why the vacuum works fine when using the attachments, but not on the floors. The attachment hose uses a different suction channel, and when the machine is in the upright position, no suction goes through this hose. If you do find a crack in this hose, you may purchase the Dyson DC-07 & DC-14 Upright Replacement Internal Hose Part # 904219 from our website, GoVacuum (dot) com.

Possible Problem #3. I would suspect that this may not be the case, but if the neither of the solutions above worked, then try this one. Dyson's in general are prone to cloggs. There are a few clog ports throughout the vacuum cleaner that were added there due to Dyson prototypes becoming clogged at these points. Here's a few pictures of how and where to check for these clogs. Simply remove the suction port covers at both of these locations:

8b33cd4.jpg

be63721.jpg

Possible Problem #4. If none of the above solutions worked for you, try this last one (maybe this should have been first?). The Dyson DC07 models use a clutch mechanism that stops the roller brush from spinning when changed from carpet mode to bare floor mode. This clutch mechanism is a notrious problem as well with Dyson models, in fact they were such a problem that Dyson had to redesign the DC07 model to a non-clutch system. Even if yours is one of the newer ones that don't use a clutch, yours still has a belt inside. You can tell if your model uses a clutch or not by the shape of the roller brush. If your brush is a perfect cylinder shape, yours does NOT have a clutch. To check and see if the clutch or the belt have gone bad, first release the handle on the vacuum as if you were vacuuming carpets. Make sure the machine is set to carpet mode. Now while the handle has been released, turn the machine upside down and see if the brushes are spinning. If the brushes are spinning then turn the vacuum right side up and put the brushes on the floor. Can you still hear the brushes spinning when they hit the carpeting? If yes, then this is not your problem. If the brushes however are NOT spinning, this indicates either your brush roll, clutch, or belt have gone bad.

These are the only things that I can think of that would possibly cause the vacuum to work well in attachment mode, and bad on carpet mode. I would like to try and figure out with you what the issue is, especially so I can be aware of a new problems with Dysons. Please feel free to use the Clarification request to ask me any questions, or if you have any problems. If none of these solutions worked, please let me know so I can try and look further into it.

Will not maintained power in high setting. Runs fine in low power setting.

I would recommend thoroughly cleaning all filters, most likely the high setting is overheating the motor and the thermal protection circuit is tripping. In other words, the motor isn't "breathing" well.

Low suction

We have one of these a few years old without the ball, pull out and see what suction is like with just the hose and the attachment for it, am I wrong and it (yours ) does not have the pull up and out hose? low suction is almost always a blockage in the air path between motor and cannister.

The red light on my coffee pot is on and will not go off. I have run cleaner thru the regular cycle now what? Its a 12 cup programmable Mr. Coffee.

I know this sounds like a pain but it takes a while toget that silly light to stop. Decalcifying your MR. COFFEE® Coffeemaker Minerals(calcium/limestone) found in water will leave deposits in your coffeemaker andaffect its performance. It's recommended that you regularly remove these depositsusing MR. COFFEE® Cleaner or vinegar. MR. COFFEE® Cleaner is available at manyretail stores or by calling the MR. COFFEE® Consumer Service Department at 1-800-MR COFFEE(1-800-672-6333). 1. Follow packageinstructions to prepare one batch of MR. COFFEE® Cleaner. Pour the mixture into the water reservoir. Before decalcifying, remove the water filtration disk from the machine. NOTE: 4 cups or 20 fl. oz. of undiluted, white householdvinegar may be used as a substitute for the cleaner. 2. Place an emptyMR. COFFEE® 10-12 cup basket-style paper filter or MR. COFFEE® permanent filter into the filter basketand slide the brew basket in place. 3. Place theempty decanter back in the unit. 4. Press theCLEAN button until the CLEAN indicator light turns on (Figure 9). For your convenience the cleaning cycle isautomatic. The entire cycle will take 45-60 minutes to complete. During thecleaning your coffeemaker will: a. Slow brewapprox. 3 cups of cleaning solution. b. Pause for 30minutes (the CLEAN light will remain on to alert you that the process is active). c. After 30minutes, your coffeemaker will brew the remainder of the cleaning solution. d. When complete, the CLEAN light will turn off and your coffeemaker will turn off. 5. Discard the cleaning solution and rinse the decanterthoroughly with clean water. 6. Fill the water reservoir with clean, fresh water. 7. Place the empty decanter back on the coffeemaker. 8. Remove and discard the paper filter usedduring the cleaning cycle. If a Mr. Coffee® permanent filter was used during cleaning, remove it andrinse it thoroughly before replacing it in the filter basket. 9. Begin brewingand allow the full brew cycle to complete. 10. Repeat steps 5 through 9 one more time.

Non working roller brush on dyson dc25 vacuum cleaner

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your Dyson cleaner is pulsating off and on. First, it can be due to a battery of the cleaner. Make sure that the power cable is properly plug to the power and seated properly from the unit while charging. If you find that the battery isn't charging at all, you may need to replace the battery. Second is to check the MAX button of your cleaner. If the button lights up and flashes when your Dyson keeps on pulsating, press and hold the power button and depress the MAX button to turn off the function. You may need to do it for a few times to get the hang of it. Third is to check for any blockages or clogs in the attachments. Look down through the tube and check to see if there are clogs on the sweeper end or if the roller is tangled up in fibers. Clean the roller brush are if it it's necessary. You may need to empty the dust bin of your unit as debris can build up in hard to reach places. Lastly, cleaning the filters may fix the pulsating of your cleaner. Remove the filter and rinse it with cold water and air dry it for 12 hours. Don't use detergent when washing your filters. If the pulsating doesn't go with the given quick fix, I suggest to contact Dyson for further assistance on this.

As mention

a little always make sure your filters are clean.but the biggest problem will be with the belt and the brush roller.if it smells like wires burning then its probably the motor .reach up under the front where the roller is but unplug first and see if you can turn the roller by hand.if it turns real freely then the belt is bad.there should be a little drag o the roller when you turn it. i would take the bottom open depending on what kind of vacuum you have and take the brush roller out and clean it real good.holding the brrush try turning the ends and see if they turn easy,if not there is probably carpet strands or hear wrapped around it in the inside of the ends,if you can't turn the roller you need to buy a new roller.if its just the belt replace the belt but before you do clean the motor shaft usually when a belt goes bad there is burnt rubber still on the shaft ,if you don't clean the shaft your new belt will not last long

Clogged filter

I found that the rubber seal on the bottom of my cyclone is not properly seated to the bottom of canister, I guessed when I removed the clear canister bin completely from cyclone unit for cleaning, I put the cyclone down on the floor and rubber seal accidentally move upward just a little. this creates a small gap on the bottom when I reassembled it, (since seal is up from it original position a little). I pulled rubber seal down to its original position, you will notice that there should not be a gap on the bottom at all, this way you do not have to clean or should not have to clean the filter but once a month or even less.

NO SUCTION ON FLOOR

Dear Thyagie, since you said the cleaning tool attachment is working,I guess that means the cleaning tool attachment still has suction" so theirs a good chance that there is a clog that needs to be cleared and you wont need a new vacuum at this time.

But you will need to try and trace the clog and clear it. I would start with the tube by the roller brush and work my way up from there !
Also check the roller brush and the belt and make sure it's working properly. If your vacuum has a filter make sure it is clean, and of course make sure the vacuum bag is not full.

I hope this helps,EarlsOK
