Have a very similar problem. Batteries are fully charged and have tried with different battery sets,. The batteries are fine since they work on another digicam. This is the first time in 1 and a half yrs that I've had a problem with this cam.

The lens extends and the cam stays on for about a minute. I can even shoot pictures but then the cam automaatically turns of & the lens retracts.

    Thanx.

I also have the same problem. I have used my camera for two years without a problem. Then when I turned on the camera the lens entended, I took a photo, the lens retracted and the camera automatically turned off. This happened a couple of times before the camera seized up. at this stage the red light comes on for a few seconds and the camera turns off. I have replaced the batteries to no avail.

    Thanks.

I have the same problem. Removing the memory card and then starting up seemed to fix it; the camera would then start up ok even with the card in.

Kodak easyshare Z650 lens extends and retracts

I only can think of two reasons. The first, the battery does not have enough power. As a safety precaution it shuts itself down, to avoid damage to the saved pictures. Because if the voltage is to low, it can't write with 100% accuracy.
Second: something is blocking free movement of the lens. This could have a cause inside the lens barrel, and you won't see a thing. It also could be a minute damage on the outside of the lens. Or what sometimes happens while putting the camera on, you touch the lens barrel. I assume you did remove any lens cap attached to the camera.
So if you can't see any damage to the lens barrel, charge the battery and try again.

I have a Kodak easy share Z700 that shuts down the minute you turn it on. It has fully charged lithium batteries. I have tried all of the solutions that I have read. Love this camera but is of no use now.

If your batteries are old, they may have lost their retaining power. Therefore, even if you recharge them fully, they will drain quickly.
Try using new batteries and let us know if the problem is not solved.

When I power up the camera the lens opens and immediately retracts and the camera shuts off. I've attempted to push every button while turning on the camera to no avail. I also held onto the lens when it...

Have you made sure that the batteries are LiIon and fully charged? I had a similar problem with a Kodak Easyshare camera that required the higher voltage LiIon battery pack rather than alkaline AAs which will fit in there but is not exactly right.

How do you fix lens error 12?

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:
