Look up the number for a new laser.....It sounds like your laser is already bad. I have had that problem a few different times. easy to fix, it just takes some time.

How can I get my RCA 5 disc CD changer stereo to work right?

I have an RCA 5 Disc Changer, purchased at Target. The first one had a prolific issue of skipping on discs. It would play part of song on the first disc then suddenly change to the next disc. However, it did not ALWAYS do this, just sometimes, seemingly at random. Then one day, it would suddenly work just fine on all 5 discs. Eventually it simply would not play an entire song at all, so I took it back (within the time of the warranty). They had 1 of the same left on the back shelves so was able to get that one. This one started doing the exact same thing within the month. Now, it will not READ discs. It will simply read, 'Read"..and then when it comes up showing the disc number it has all zeros. I tried skipping to the next disc and then the next, and suddenly it read. That was fine for two days, then it would not even do that. I tried using compressed air inside all of the open disc drawer, and on all the discs but to no avail. Just now I tried tilting the entire unit Back at about a 30 degree angle and while in that position hit the 'disc change' button on the remote and suddenly it read. How long will this work? Have no idea. Very irritating - and it's hard to find this kind of player anymore, apart from a Component System which is a whole new playing field. Amazingly , I had bought my first changer, a 6 CD changer, cheap one at wal mart long ago and it lasted me about 10 years and never had a problem. It was a no-name brand too, I would expect better from RCA but alas, tis not the case.

either a dirty optical pickup (reads the discs) or a bad one.

Dvdcd player is not reading some cds and reads others

This has to do with the type of CD you are trying. Is it a VCD, SVCD, etc.? Also, some CD players will only play certain formats of CDs. For instance, it will play regular store-bought CDs, and will play CD-R discs that you have made in the computer, but won't play any RW discs like CD-RW or CD+RW discs. ALSO, some players will play CD-R and CD-RW but any + discs, like CD+RW are not compatible.
Basically all players will work with a CD-R, and usually CD-RW but the + ones are less compatible. If I knew your model CD player I could check for you, but that is probably the case. Stick with CD-R and you should be good to go.
Lastly, rarely, but sometimes, the drive may not like the disc brand you are using due to the composition used (like if the bottom is blue or greenish). Tends to be that blue or what they say is cyan discs work best. I use TDK and Verbatim branded CD-R and CD-RW, and they seem to work best.
Good luck!!

The cd player is not reading the discs. The read out flashes and blinks but it does not read the music off the disc.

Try removing the cover and clean glass laser eye lens with rubbing alcohol and cotton swab. If cleaning doesn't work, then laser lens circuit will need to be tested and replaced. You can use an ohmmeter to test the capacitors and circuit.

Long loading time, then readout says, bad disc.

The lazer beam of the disc has a micro dust that need to remove. You can try to use the cd cleaner. If nothing happen , you need to open the disc and spray the lenses with soft air.

CD player not working correctly.

In my experience you may find that the disc has a type of Fog that is not seen by the eye, generated by electrical & heat. You will find it is more noticable in cold weather, early mornings & late evenings. This happens for some reason more on CD's than Mp3 files on the disc. If possible you should also try having Mp3's Vs. CD files as the HD units can read ahead more Mp3's due to their smal file size generally less than One whole CD Wma file elimating alot of the problem & also any jumping. You will also find that you will get approximately 200 individual Mp3's to a standard CD.
Hope this helps,
Alex

Bad Disc

First determine where the problem lies. This can be done by analyzing what is happening. Is the disc spinning. Is it spinning erratically? If the disc is not spinning, the spin motor is probably defective. But sometimes you can be fooled, if the laser does not detect information of the disc, it will not issue a start spin motor command. If you can get the unit to work with the door open by defeating the switches,(Do not under any circumstances look directly into the laser)If you see the laser then the spin motor is bad, In either case the unit is is probably cheaper to replace than to repair. Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.
