Fuel/Oil Mixture

  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
  2. Most gas in the US of A contains ethanol; not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 6 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

SOURCE: need to know how to connect the gas lines from the

The lines should be connected to push fuel into the carburetor. The output (overflow) of the carb is routed back into the tank. So, two lines in the tank, one is an overflow (return) and the other is the suction. On the primer one line from the tank and the other to the carb. Connect so as to "push" fuel into the carb when the primer bulb is pushed.

Have a poulan wild thing and the oil bar compartment has gas in it

I would drain the oil and gas or whatever is in it. I would also drain the 2 cycle mix from the gas tank and start with a fresh gas and oil mix and fresh bar oil. The mix for the Poulan Wildthing is a 40:1 mix.

You are definitely going to smell gas when using any chain saw.

Need gas and oil mixture ratio

The gas oil ratio on all Poulan models is 40:1.
First, I recommend a synthetic oil mix if you can find it and also recommend running a 93 octane gasoline.
Second, I would mix no more than 1 gallon at a time, unless you are doing a lot of cutting.
Gas/Oil mixtures do not last that long. I don't give them more than a month, and generally try to run any mixture within 2 weeks.
Think about it, gas cam gum up on it's own when let sitting for too long. Imagine what it can do with oil mixed in it.
Good luck with your saw, and be careful when cutting.

I would say yes. Most are and I would get a small bottle of two cycle oil and mix it to one gallon of gas. Most hardware stores sell the oil.

New 18" Poulan Pro 42 cc saw, mixed up new gas

Don't use stabil. Use a modern synthetic saw oil (50:1 fuel to oil ratio) available at home centers, hardware stores, and saw dealers. Mix the oil and fuel in it's own container and be sure to shake the container thoroughly just before filling the tank each time to prevent oil starvation. If it becomes apparent that the carburetor adjustments are wrong, you will need to see your dealer for adjustment. Good luck!
