Acer t180 ud360a memory

HI. Added 2 x 1 gig dimms to system that came with 2 x 512mb's. with all 4 memory slots filled the pc will not boot up. Just beeps. When I remove any 1 module everything works fine in any combination in any three slots. Memtest says all modules are good. How do I access the BIOS on this machine? The spec sheet says this came with pc2-4200 memory, it came out of the box new with pc2-5300, is this common.
Thanks for any help.

Ast180-ua381 memory updrade no post

Well, the maximum memory capacity is showing as 4GB with 512MB factory installed. So, what kind of memory are you installing? Are they PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM DIMMS? Are they EEC or NON-EEC? The same RAM card has to be installed in the paired slots, but they also have to be at a speed the motherboard can use (PC2-6400 for example).

Some motherboards are only upgradable to their allotted amount that board may only handle up to 2 gigs of RAM which is a shame. But this is the way it is. That is why I always check the board memory capacity before I buy computer boards or RAM for them. The beeps indicate error on the slots for the RAM that is why you can start up when you remove ram one at a time and replace. So use the allotted amount of RAM for that board specification or get another mother board that can handle more than 2 gigs of RAM. Sorry for the loss. Thanks for using FixYa! John

Gateway desktop fx 7026 memory issue, has 4 slots came with( 2 )2 gb sticks = 4 gigs it came with. when i add 2 extra gig it doesnt recognize.

the specs i read says 8 gig is the max. here is what it says for RAM
  • Installed Size 4.0 GB / 8.0 GB (max)
  • Technology DDR2 SDRAM
  • Memory Speed 667.0 MHz
  • Form Factor DIMM 240-pin
  • Features Dual channel memory architecture
  • Configuration Features 2 x 2 GB

check to make sure you have added the right type of memory. also look at your user manual. it should tell you where and how to place the added sticks. sometimes they have to be added in pairs or have to be in specific slots. also if you dont have the manual it is on the gateway site. you should type in your model and serial number and get all the info you need.

Yes you can. Your best is to use the largest and best ram in the number one slot. I would remove ALL the ram and start with the 2 gig in the first slot - then add others until you get the error message - remove that one and keep the rest.

214 - DIMM Configration Warning . Rearrange the DIMMs so that each channel has the same amount of memory >>>???

this is telling you that the Dimms ( Memory Sticks ) Have to be the same or equivalent.
i.e:- 2 x 256mb. 2 x 512mb. Your system does,nt seem to like 1 stick of 128mb And 1 stick of 256mb. et,c.
each channel has to have the same amount of memory. put the same memory in slots 1 and 2 on the motherboard, or if there are 4 slots. put the same memory modules in slots 1-2 3 and 4.
If this does,nt work, use the same memory in slots 1 and 3. or 2 and 4 respectively.

Acer Aspire T-180 Memory Upgrade question

Hello, You might be able to add 2GB more. 1GB per slot. You need to get the model # off your motherboard and verify what the maximum amount of memory it will support. 1GB per slot would be 4GB total but some Operating systems will only support 3GB. So some might be wasted if that is the case. You would need to use the same memory type. So if existing is PC2-4300, use the same. Hope this helps.
