To start try restarting the router.

Ensure that you have correct configuration on PS3, reset network configuration and make a new connection.

Go into DNS setting on PS , try entering the DNS server addresses manually in the PS3 network settings. The primary DNS must be the one given by your ISP.

If that does not work, enter into router control panel, entering router IP into Internet Explorer. In there try disabling firewall, and restart the router. If that works, add an exception with PS IP in router firewall.
Also try upgrading router firmware to latest release. If you have a different router, configure it on the network, and test it with the PS3.

Hi there, please be patient, thanks.

if you are at work there is a firewall that may block the PS.

In any case if the problem is the DNS error , the first thing to do is to get the number of the local DNS.

To discover DNS you may need to ask someone, or check network settings on a computer connected to the network.

If you have a computer connected you can also use an utility like this one.

Check your router settings make sure you demiliterize your ports on the ps3. You can slo try connecting ti up directly to your broadband modem if you do not get the error its with the router and thus you have to make sure the settigs are correct.

Also make sure you are DHCP if your a static route then you need to put you ip and dns servers in the router as it will not pick them up automatically.

thanks

Enter the DNS server addresses manually in the PS3 network settings AND use tetertiary DNS server from my ISP as either the primary or the secondary DNS server
Or change your router 1) Your SSID (typically the SN of the modem/router) 2) WEP 'enabled' and the WEP key.

I just bought my sony playstation 3 the problem is that I can't seem to hook it up to my internet it goes to an office beside my house I don't even see my hughesnet satelite on there and i don't know what...

  • Connect your PlayStation 3 game console to your cable modem using an Ethernet cable. The length of the cable needed depends on the distance of your PS3 from your cable modem. The Ethernet cable plugs directly into the rear of your PS3 console, as well as the rear of your cable modem.
  • Power on your PlayStation 3 and your cable modem.
  • Move to the Settings option on the XMB (short for cross media bar--another name for the PS3's home menu).
  • Scroll down to Network Settings and press "X" on the controller.
  • Select the Internet Connection option and make sure it's set to Enabled. Then scroll down to Internet Connection Settings and press "X."
  • Select "Yes" when the console notifies you it will be disconnected from the Internet. Select the "Easy" setting method. Your PS3 will configure your settings automatically. Press "X" when prompted to save the settings and test the connection.

Resetting router

Sounds like the router's DNS settings got clobbered. I've heard of this happening before when UPNP is enabled.

There should be a reset switch (usually concealed iside a hole) on the back or bottom. That'll get you back to factory settings. Reconfigure as needed and I suggest you switch UPNP OFF, there is never any real need for it.

No internet ?

When you connect your ps3 with a ethernet cord you need to restart your ps3 when its connected. If its wireless you may need to check your router settings.

Need help with ps3 internet hook up

The ps3 wifi is very finicky --
While the ps3 scans for a hotspot turn the router off then on so the router aquires the ps3.
Goto settings
Goto network settings
Goto network connection, select enable
Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-
Push yes when it says you may be disconnected
Select wired or wireless
For wireless use scan or enter manually
Follow on screen instructions.
Once that is set up return to main menu and go to network near the right
Then once in the internet browser press triangle and goto file and enter the internet address you would like visit.
If all else fail use the ethernet cable to attach it to your laptop. Then run network setup on the laptop and add the ps3.

Ps3 wireless

It depends... If you use a router for the Internet then you don't need any cable, just turn on the router and then go to the PS3 and configure the PS3 to work with the router. If you have wired internet, then you will need an Ethernet cable, but since the PS3 comes with an Ethernet cable, you don't need to buy one. With the Ethernet cable, you have 2 options. If your modem has an Ethernet port, then just connect the PS3 to the modem directly. If the modem doesn't have an Ethernet port or direct connection won't work, then you can use Internet Connection Sharing to connect your PS3 to the Internet.
