Make sure the memory is seated correctly. Both sides of the memory should click in. I would try 1 memory stick at a time if you have more than 1. If it was not seated correctly and you turned the machine on, you could have damaged it. Try different slots as well.

was your vostro 230 third generation? meaning, did it use DDR2 memory before or always had DDR3? They are not compatible. 2nd generation computers cannot use third gen parts. cpu, ram, most none of that type stuff. the motherboards are different and cannot change. if it was ddr2 memory you have to use ddr2, not ddr3, hope that helps.

Two Beeps indicates "No memory modules detected" as outlined in the service manual. Either you have bad memory or you memory slots ( or motherboard memory circuit) are bad.

I own a dell. intel865 foxconn motherboard. there is on 512 ram and i want to put 4 kingston 512 or at least 2. but there is only multiple long beeps, phoenix bios

You have to make sure that the memory you put on each socket is a DDR266/333/400 memory. The max capacity of your motherboard is up to 4GB, meaning 1GB of each socket.

the above link will allow you to download pdf versions or view HTML versions of the Dell manuals for your machine.

4 beeps is RAM read/write failure

if you recently installed new RAM (memory) you should check to be sure that it is compatible. If not, you might just have a loose memory stick.

just remove and re-install memory modules making certain to seat them firmly.

!!!! Very important ..before touching memory.. be sure to discharge any static from your body - by touching anything grounded (I usually leave my tower plugged into a grounded outlet and make sure the rocker switch to the for the power supply(the switch on the back of the computer) is turned off.

Dell vostro 400 2 beeps in bios post test

Hi...

The cause of beeping is the memory problem. maybe the memory stick is not inserted correctly. If your memory stick will not correctly inserted it will damaged the memory slot. Try to use the other slot, if the same thing happen. You memory slot will be damaged you need to bring you motherboard to the computer repair center. Ask first how you will pay, if the labor cost is high. its better to buy a brand new motherboard.

Regards.

Vostro bios post beeps

Either your memory sticks are bad or, you have too much memory in the slots. Computers can accept a lot of memory but they can only recognize a certain amount. Make sure you don't have too much.

Dell vostro 1000 will not turn on

remove the memory cards and wipe the golden ends with an erraser and than put them back in and issue will be resolved ... if that doesnt help... if there are more than one card than remove them again and reseat one card at a time and you will find the culprit and you have to change it and in case of one card you have to change that
