Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Ive been replacing hard drives in my Rio and have a handfull of bad drives now. I'm now trying the 'whack' procedure to see if it will revive them. I use my Rio on the mountain bike so they do take some abuse. Note: if whacking doesn't work, Ebay is a great source. You can get at 8GB drive for less than $25. I'd prefer to use a flash drive to avoid shock problems. Any success there?

My hard drive is not responding to windows 7 operating system..it makes some sounds and i cant access my documents in it ?

Your disk-drive is "dying" -- it is moving the read/write mechanism, which produces the noise, but it is not working well-enough to pull data off the recording surfaces.

Replace it. Reinstall Windows.

Remove all of the ram, turn the laptop on if it does not beep you have a bad motherboard. If it beeps replace the memory and remove the hard drive turn on the laptop and see if it posts. If it posts without the hard drive then the hard drive is bad. Otherwise it is probably still a bad motherboard.

Rio ce2100 upgrader

You probably have broken the hard drive,

Try replacing it with a CF card,

Everybody says that this does not work but it definitely does!

My Rio got dropped and I completely buggered the hard drive so after reading many forums saying that it didn't work I read one that said that someone had told them that sandisk ultra II ones worked (very vague!)

Because I had nothing to lose I went out and bought a 1GB sandisk Ultra II CF card. I then took apart my rio and replaced the hard drive with the CF card. Still not thinking it was going to work I plugged it into my computer and installed the latest firmware (from the rio website) and then HEY PRESTO!!!!!! it works.

I have yet to try an 8GB ultra II card but when I do i will keep you posted.

If you don't believe me then I don't blame you but If you send me a request then I can send you pictures and more details...

Rio will live on

Hope this helps

Rio Carbon 5GB Problem

I had the same problem. I smacked the back of it (in my hand, not off any surface) to try to release the pin stuck on the hard drive. Rio Carbon currently works for me, but I will not expect too much. I have had mine for awhile now.

This is probably only a temporary solution, in the long run your hard drive will most likely get stuck again.
