When I try to install the driver to my Canon Pixma ip4500 on my HP desktop computer with Vista 32, the process stalls at the point where it says"registering the program information," and then a minute later says"an error occurred while files were being copied." I called Canon support and, after trying various potential remedies, was told to try installing on my Gateway laptop with XP. On this computer, everything installed correctly. Canon then said it must be an HP problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Check the canon website to see if they vista drivers for this printer. It might not be compatible with vista.

Thanks elig1000 for a quick response, but Canon support indicated that the drivers were Vista compatible. As it turns out, I found the answer here:

This basically outlines the process for manually installing the driver by copying it from the install disc and pasting it in the appropriate folder on my hard drive. I called Canon back and advised them that this had worked, and they stated that they would never offer such risky advice. So I guess caution may be required. Anyway, it worked for me. Thanks, again.
