Question about Aiptek MPVR Digital Camera

1 Answer

The camera won't turn on. Not at all. I recharged the battery. I haven't dropped it or used it near a magnet, it hasn't gotten wet or hot or cold. I have only had it for one day, it was working fine yesterday.

    What does that mean?

  • v_rod829 Jul 31, 2009

Apparantly it is the battery. The camera runs off the charger, but it won't draw from the fully charged battery.

I haven't turned the camera on for a couple of years. I've tried charging the battery, but I can't get it to power up. Do I need to replace battery or is it something else?

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

If it is solar powered and hasn't been used in some time, the battery may have died, permanently. If there is no battery to replace then it is broken forever. Sorry. When batteries are left without juice for a long period of time they die, and cannot be recharged.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Got wet. Won't turn on

125 degrees is too hot! A camera should be dried buried in a bowl of dry rice for a week, not in a hot oven.

I have the same problem, its as if the voltage sensor has raised it's cut off point. Originally when the batteries dropped to around 1.4v the camera would cut out, ( normal I would say ) a fresh set would sort it out. Don't use rechargeable batteries as they operate at a lower level and last a far shorter time. My problem I think is terminal and must be a fault on one of the printed circuits, so I bought the Kodak M380, not good quality pictures indoors even though 10.2 mp. Good luck.
