When I turn the power button on, either on the front panel of the TV or with the remote, I get the sound of the unit turning on, a small click in the VCR unit and a power light, showing that the TV is on. There is no picture and no sound. The unit responds to commands to open and close the DVD drawer so it's obviously powering up but there's no picture or sound.
The Toshiba manual suggests that there may be a problem with the TIMER REC button having been activated but I can't solve the problem by keying that entry.

Hello Bobby You haven't given enough details about the fault to your Combo. What do you mean my 'power button has coninuity on board'. I assumes that you get power LED at the front of your device lights up when you switch ON the main power switch, and the unit refuses to power ON and work further. If so, just make a factory reset to this set as it will reset the memory IC. To reset the unit to its factory reset do the folloing. But to do this, the power LED on the front panel of the unit should light up. Otherwise, the fault will be to its power regulator section. To reset the unit to factory reset: Turn the Power ON. Hold down both PLAY/REPET and FF on the unit more than 5 seconds. The power will shut OFF. Please ignore "NO CASETTE" warning. Perform initial set up refering to its user manual. You can see instructions to initial setup at page of the user manual to your device. OK.
Manually turn the TV on with front panel Power button. Then, with no
cassette inserted, hold Play and Rewind buttons on front of the TV for 5
seconds or more. The TV should shut off. Turn it back on and go through
the setup procedure
Ok you did not cause the problem as you could always turn on the TV set from the front panel button,, If the TV set will not turn on even with the front panel button, there is a major fault with the TV set. This is not a reset that can be done by the user as there is a circuit fault and will require you to take the TV set into a shop to be diagnoised or replaced. Good Luck
I had this problem with my TV/VCR combo unit (Samsung CXC1972) after losing the remote while in the dorms. I tried a few different universal remotes and dozens of codes before I tried the Philips 3 device universal remote as pictured below with code 037 programmed into the VCR/DVD button. I can't change the volume with this code but the input key switches between line in and tv. You can also change the channel, access the menu and operate the VCR functions with the code. I bought the remote for less than $10 at Walmart so it might be worth a try, and if it doesn't work you can always bring it back. Hope this helps.
Not unless you have taken the time to learn all the safety issues concerning the HI voltage safety facts, in the repair of electronics? It sounds like your tv has a problem in the sweep/power supply circuits, and since these sets have NO user serviceable parts< its best too leave these types of repairs to a certified electronic technician. Good Luck
