These belts are really sensitive. Try messing around with it. Making srue that the belt isnt coming off the big tub pully. You tub pully isnt loose is it. Make sure the bolt that hold the pully onto the tub is tight on. Make sure the pully isnt loose. Inspect it for any small craks where that boltt tightens up. If the pully check out ok. Check the small motor pully as well. Make sure that isnt loose or anything. Pull on it if if its loose then thats you problem.. Inspect both pullys good. I would assume belt is in good shape right? If both pullys check out ok, then i would try to get the belt on and just mess around with it, spin the pully and if you se the belt starting to slip off adjust it as you keep spinning the pully....hope this helps

If you have replaced the spring loaded belt tensioner ( leave the pully nut loose ) then on refitting the belt , at a point midway between the two cam pulleys there should be a maximum deflection of .37" to .45 " ( 3/8 to just under 1/2") with a 22 lbs load applied on the belt . the tensioner pulley is then tightened up at the pulley nut to 28 -38ft lbs torque setting

Belt won't stay on, 1989 gmc 3/4 ton pickup

Not having the tensioner pulley lined up would do it.
All of the pulleys have to be in a straight line and the tensioner has to keep the belt tight, especially with extra load from one of the accessories.

It sounds like the spring in my washer has broken. It made a loud sound during a cycle and now the basket is completely off balance and barely moves. I was wondering if the spring is worth fixing or if...

This could be an easy fix if the counter weight came loose from the top of the tub shell which is a common problem. Pull the unit out from the wall and removed the back panel to inspect the counter weight, spider pulley and belt. If the counter weight is not broke you can reattach it to tub shell and retighten the bolts. If it is broke it is about $30.00 plus shipping. Inspect the spider pulley which is attached to the tub with the belt around it. If it is not broken, you can turn the pulley by hand to check the tub bearings for free movement. Make sure the belt is in good shape and attached to the motor spindle and spider pulley. If the spider pulley is broken you may have to order a new pulley. If you have to remove the spider pulley you may want to use a gear puller from an auto parts store to remove the pulley. The belt is easily replaced once you know the below procedure:

1. Place the belt around the center of the motor pulley stretching the belt to the spider pulley leaving no slack in the belt.

2. Keeping the slack out of the belt, place the belt on the outside rim of the spider pulley as much as the belt tension will allow you to do so.

3. Keep the tension on the belt and slowly rotate the spider pulley counter clockwise until the belt is completely on the spider pulley.

Rotate the spider pulley several times to make sure the belt stays in the center of the spider pulley. If the belt is not centered after several revolutions you need to remove the belt and reinstall it after moving the ribs of the belt on the motor pulley in the direction which centers the belt. If it was my unit I would fix it unless you have to replace the outer tub shell (approximately $300.00 for parts only).

Maytag Neptue frontloading washing machine model MAH5500BWW stopped spinning (machine is about 15 years old). I opened up the back and saw the drive belt was thrown. Reinstalled it (perhaps badly) and...

i would say you have a warped main pulley, run the machine in spin, watch it early to detect any wobling in the belt should be no sideway movement. also check main pulley is tight with no lateral wobling.

Unit containing motor and washing tub suddenly jump around dislodging drive belt. Is it a bareing problem or gear box.

More information on the problematic unit would really help but the jumping of the tub isn't a tub bearing problem although it can definitely lead to one. The jumping could be due to an unbalanced load, the unit itself not being properly leveled or if it is a floating tub then one or more of the support shocks may not be positioned correctly. Also if this is a new unit then make sure all shipping bolts and/or supports are removed. The bearings in the belt pulleys or the tension pulley could be bad and also make sure the belt properly installed.

THE SPIN DRYER IS MAKING NOISE BUT NOT SPINNING

Hi, if the tub is not spinning, you have either broken the belt, or the motor has burned out. If you are a handy person, you can pull off the back panel to get a look at the tub and the belt will be wrapped all the way around the tub and motor pulley. Turn it on if the belt isn't broken to see if the motor is trying to turn at the pulley. If the belt is broken that's the problem, but also make sure the motor runs because if it if froze up due to loss of bearings it will break the new belt if you decide you are going to try and replace it on your own. You will have to wrap it around the tub and run it over the belt tentioner and around the pulley. You can get a belt at a appliance parts house. Take the model, serial, numbers and brand name, and the old belt may have a part number on it. Keep me posted please.
I will check back in the morning.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Humming sound when you turn the washing machine on, and it will not work

Most probably the motor's rotor is stuck. You also have to check the belt and the tub pulley. Unplug the machine and open the access panel on the lower back of the machine.
  1. Check the belt and replace if broken or worn.
  2. Remove the belt.
  3. Rotate the tub pulley and the motor pulley manually.
  4. Plug the machine and check if the motor runs without the belt.
Get back to me and tell me your findings for the repair guide.

I need to know how to install the new belt

The following link explains how to install the belt on a Whirlpool Duet front loader:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3059652-drive_belt_installation_whirlpool_duet

This is an easy process, but it may take some effort to get the belt on the pulley. It is designed for a tight fit in order for the belt to stay in place on the tub pulley with no play in it. There is no tensioner and you do not loosen any motor mounts. Just make sure you hold the belt tightly in place with your hands and turn the entire tub pulley (like a steering wheel) in a clock-wise direction. The belt will stay on after you turn the pulley far enough for it to grip and stay in place.

If you have not purchased a replacement belt yet, the part number for the model you have this listed under is 8181670.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
