The only thing I can suggest is to call One day the shutter release worked and the next - blank.gif the support number I found for you.

This camera is somewhere between fifteen and thirty years old. It is highly unlikely that spares would be available, and it would be extremely expensive to have it repaired in any case, most artificers familiar with the internal layout having probably retired years ago. Maybe the camera should be retired too ?

Sorry but I will ask a dump question , what about the polarity of the battery ?
was it correctly fitted ? sorry but I had this case twice, that's why I asked......

When the batteries in an F3 die, though the film can still be advanced, the photographer is limited to a single mechanical shutter speed of approximately 1/60 second. It is tripped by a secondary fully mechanical shutter release. Works fine when camera is attached to a motor drive because it uses the drivers power. the batteries as one of the following is okay.....
  • Battery: Choice of one 3V lithium battery CR-1/3N type,,
  • two 1.55V silver-oxide batteries SR-44 type, or
  • two 1.5V alkaline batteries LR-44 type
Hope this helps!
Take care and please

Lost all button functionality except power and shutter

There is a secondary battery I suppose for memory retension. It is housed where the other batteries and memory card are, the battery is a CR1220. I replaced that battery and things are working well again.

Film camera I assume?
Sounds like the end of the roll to me or it may be off track.
Remove and replace film with NEW roll. While its empty (and open) you might try the shutter release button and watch the shutter (it is very fast so hold it up to light) to see if it is working.

Shutter stopped working

If the metering lights go out when you press the shutter release fully down, then the camera needs the shutter capacitors replaced. If they stay on, it could be the release magnets on the shutter unit itself, or worse.

This happened to me to both the Canon's I had. I found out it was a dead battery. Once I replaced those it worked fine. The battery is hidden under the hand grip which can be taken off using a coin in the screw slot.

No picture taken when shutter release is pressed

if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons : 1) defective switch. 2) defective flex cable. 3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.

IstD shutter release problem

I've had similar problems with my Pentax Super-A on an intermittent basis. If you haven't replaced the batteries I suggest you try that first. Not sure why, but that has sorted my problem out quite a few times (even when the existing batteries still have a fair amount of juice left in them).
