Lens will not come out of camera

Camera is only 1.5 years old, when turned on the lens will not come out and you can hear the 'motor' trying to work. Is it worth fixing or even having it looked at. There was no concussion to it, I really don't even use it much but......

Hi!
Probably the lens are stuck and / or damaged. You should contact your local Kodak service center, but I believe they will ask much. If you're ready to send it to me for a repair, I can offer you a very good price. My e-mail is toms.safranovs@gmail.com
I work in a Kodak service center.

Your camera is still under the one year Nikon warranty. Call Nikon's repair depot at 1-800-NIKON-US (1-800-645-6687) 9AM-8PM EST, Monday to Friday. They will verify your warranty and assist you in returning it for repair.

Sounds like the focus motor came loose - you need to take it apart and repair the gear that drives the lens assembly for focusing. The noise you're hearing is the motor trying to focus but since the lens cannot focus it continues to run and signals an error.

What does it mean when your camera lens is not working and the screens say, turn off the power and turn it on again ? What happen if the camera lens is moving but ther screens is not opening or showing...

I may not have enough information for this... how ever, let us try. And I am not sure which one you are talking about, maybe both at times?
Does the camera play back files correctly and can be seen on the LCD?
If the first, then some problem exists with the lens. This camera then needs repair.
If no screen on the LCD, then repair is recommended.

In both cases, it seems the camera is in need of repair.
Because this camera is a few years old, I recommend to sell it for parts and as is on a site such as Ebay.

My camera wont turn on.

If the lens is stuck inside the camera and you hear a motor noise - changing batteries will not help. This has happened because the lens barrel is jammed inside the camera. Unfortunately, you will not be able to repair that issue. If the lens is stuck outside the camera, slightly tilted, and you hear a motor noise; you might be able to save camera. First, only use good batteries (stay away from alkaline batteries - waste of money), go with Energizer Lithium or Duracell Power Pix (you will get your moneys worth and have less problems with the camera). Second, very GENTLY, pull the lens barrel up and in the opposite direction of the tilt (to make the lens barrel straight), you will hear a slight click sound - DO NOT PUSH ON THE LENS BARREL!!!. Put in the new batteries and the lens should retract.

Camera gives E18 error!!!

Hello there,
The E18 error is related to the LENS not able to retract fully. If it is still under warranty, I would advise you bring it to the nearest service center. This is to avoid further damages. Otherwise, you can try a few things below.
There are a couple of things you can do.
1. Turn it on and then off. Spray canned air around the lens.
If trick 1 will not work out, try this.
2. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn on the camera and then give it a couple of firm whacks on the side. Make sure nothing is blocking the lens and wait for it to fully retract.
Let me know how it goes.

Zoom Error, Lens won't close

There are several causes for this to happen.
1. The lens assy is out of alignment and stuck; stalling the motor.
2. The motor itself is defect
3. If you can hear the motor working , then it will be a stripped plastic gear between motor drive and lens assy.
DIY repair not recommended (possible)

izzy41,
make sure the lens is properly connected and aligned, if it has been remove recently it may not of been put completely back to the right position causing the contacts to not align. Turn off the camera and remove and then remount the lens. The motors and the cost to replace/repair are almost as much as a new lens. Your lens can and should last a long time unless it has recently been dropped or tried on a camera (forced) the wrong way and the contacts were bent or damaged.

Camera won't turn on

I am assuming that the power does not go on or it immediately turns off as it is turned on.

Try the docking station or the 3.3 AC adapter to the camera. Plug that in to live power. If you hear the lens motor (by default the lens is retracted to closed position when plugged to AC power), then the camera is operational. If not, there is power failure with the camera.

If the lens motor work, then try to turn the camera while plugged to AC power. If it turns on, then there is something wrong with the battery or with the chamber. If the camera does not turn on, then check the button board for a bad power switch.

Check the LCD closely under a bright light when you do this test. You may see a faint a flash of display that disappears. I have not figured out what causes this. This would mean that camera power supply is working but nothing is telling for the camera to stay on.

Hey fl_dolphin,
This is most likely caused by something obstructing the movement of the lens. You could try blowing compressed air in to the side of the lens to try and dislodge whatever is stuck in the lens. This could also be caused by a problem with the lens mechanism. If this is the case most digital cameras come with a 1 year manufacturers warranty and I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. If the camera is less than a year old the repair would likely be at no cost to you. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan
