I turned it on, the welcoming screen came on for a moment, but then the screen went blank! the phone still makes sounds, and the letters and numbers are stil lit up but i cant see what im doing! please help!

Hi,what makes Samsung impression phone to go blank is because the flex of the phone is damaged. The flex of the phone is located inside the phone, connected to the screen board and allows the screen to display.
When the flex get cut or damaged it will make the phone not to display.
So you will need to replace the flex of the phone and problemwillbe solved.
I just repaired my son's phone with the same problem. Turns out the Micro USB connector on the phone was completely un-soldered from the PCB. I simply had to solder it back on to get the battery to charge. You will need a soldering iron with a sharp tip and a steady hand. The connector is in a tight space.
if it still happens when you take the sd card out than it is a device issue and you need to turn it off and back on. if the powercycle doesnt work contact your provider about replacements because it is a device issue. if it works without the sd card, first make sure the sd card is compatible w/ your phone by checking your manual. if it is then the sd card is bad and you should take it back and get a new one.
Just make some rice, and put it in a ziploc bag. Then take out the battery in your phone and put your phone without the battery in the bag. The steam will help get the water or tea or whatever out. I've done this before and it helps a lot!
I do not have a suggestion for you, only sympathy. I have been putting mp3s on my phone for about 3 months and there are always a few that seem to be corrupted. They will either not play or more commonly cause my phone to reboot. (even though they work perfecly when burned to cd or played through vlc or winamp) It goes to the telus startup screen and stay there until the phone flashes off and back on. I have tried re-encoding the mp3s with no change in performance. I wonder if anyone knows of a different media player for this phone. Have you called Telus? I know they are a pain to deal with but there may be options. Alternatively I might suggest flashing the firmware and starting fresh.
