WD Mybook I TB hard drive won't power up

I went to go use my WD tb today and there was no blue light, and basically no power going to the unit. Does this mean the drive is toast or I just need a new power cord?

The wall outlet I plugged it into has power and so does another power strip I have in the house..

WD says the same thing but I won't know until I recieve one. I guess I'm gonna have to try out a buddy's power adapter in the meantime and see if thats the culprit.

WD sent a new power adapter. Still didn't work.

It could be the power adapter but you'll need to verify that the wall outlet or power strip you have it plugged into actually has power. If it's a power strip make sure that it is turned on and has power and also plug the adapter into a different outlet on the strip as individual outlets can go bad or have a bad connection.

It is most likely the power adapter but the only way to tell is to get another known good adapter and give it a try. There is also the possibility that the power port on the drive enclosere was damaged. with the USB cable disconnected plug the power adapter into the wall and the enclosure and listen for the hard to start up. If you hear the drive then you have power. It could then be that your computer is not recognizing the drive when you connect the USB cable so you would then need to try a different USB cable and also try it in a different USB port.

I had this same problem and came across your post looking for a solution online, but didn't find one.
eventually i did get it to start working again. i pluged in an adapter from another device that fit but had a higher output voltage. the hard drive light came on for a second and then nothing. after that, i plugged in the original cord again. all of a sudden it worked. not sure this is a technical solution or just good luck, but if you have a similar adapter lying around with a higher output, try what i did.

My Western Diagnostic My Book is not showing up in

That happened to me but with windows. I ended up having to burn a Knoppix Linux boot disc and when i booted up with Linux it was able to access the drive and i tediously backed up my files to another drive and formatted the broken drive and that fixed it. It was a while back so i may have forgotten something but having a Knoppix disc has gotten me into a lot of broken drives. Good luck.

OS whont start whit WD 1 TB external drive.

You need to set your boot sequence in the BIOS so that it does not include external drives. Basically your computer is trying to load Windows from the external drive instead of its own internal one.

Your motherboard manual is going to help, if you can't manage it by yourself give me a link to your manual or tell me the model of your motherboard and i will show you what you need to change.
