Question about D-Link DES-1008D 8-Port Ethernet Switch (790069217708)

1 Answer

DES-1008D connectivity issues.

Hello,

I currently have a DES-1008D switch, and have a modem connected to one of the ports. In port 2 I have a router, and as I have read most ISP's providers only provide one IP so that explains why my other devices connected to the different ports are not working. Can anyone suggest a solution to my problem?

Keep in mind that my modem and router only have 1 ethernet port.

Thank you.

Is the modem a DSL or cable model?
Does the router have one ethernet port and a WAN port?
Normally the broadband modem is connected to the WAN port on the router and the ethernet port on the router is then connected to the hub/switch and the computers are then connected to the hub/switch.
The modem gets an unique IP address from your Internet Service Provider and then the router then issues Class "C" IP addresses to each computer that is connected to the switch/hub.

I brought a des 1008d swtich i want internet sharing with swtich .i connect all pc with this switch

You have to connect all the computers you have to the switch and connect your DSL or cable modem also to the switch and enable DHCP in it. Configure all your computers to obtain IP address automatically. This should work and you should be able to share the internet across the network

How can I install or connect my d link to the internet line and my computer

Hi,

I assume you have a broadband connection which you are directly to your computer.

In that case please connect the broadband ethernet cable to one of your switch port.
Get a new CAT5 or CAT6 ethernet straight cable and connect one end to any free port of the DES-1008D 8-Port Ethernet Switch and other end to your Computer.

No configuration needed to be done on DES-1008D 8-Port Ethernet Switch

How to connecte d-link switch model-DES-1008D two same switch pls urgent

Sometimes we need to connect 2 switches, which can be done by using Ethernet Cable (CAT5 or 6). Just connect the cable to the LAN ports from one switch to another. Let me know the purpose of doing so that i may guide you better.

Hope this helps!

When i get connected to d-link des 1008d switch port the computer will get automatically configured 255.255.0.0 to subnet mask therefore i have class c ip address and i dont have internet connection...

u no need to worry about the subnet mask 255.255.0.0
just do the following connections
  1. connect a utp cable from modem/router to dlink switch.
  2. connect a utp cable from switch to ur pc
Assign ur pc manually with following configuration

ip: 192.168.100.5
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.100.1

and your router with ip: 192.168.100.1 And enable pppoe in ur router.

Thats it you are connected to internet. No need to enable ics etc.

1008d wanting to know what to plug in

Hi,

The D-Link DES-1008d is an unmanaged switch that does not need any configuration to work. You just need to plug in your device (PC/Xbox/Laptop) into one of the ports of the switch, using an ethernet patch cord, and it would start communicating with it. I think your xbox 360 already includes a patch cable in the box. You also need to connect the 1008d to your DSL/Cable/whatever modem, using a similar ethernet patch cord, in order to get online.

This is all that you need to do as far as your 1008d is concerned.

For isolating the issue, try connecting the same computer to different ports on this switch. Mostly it should not be an issue with the computer but still as we need to troubleshoot this logically, we need to try this.
Else keep the power cable unplugged and plug it back in after 15 minutes.
Lastly try connecting your computers directly with the modem one-by-one.
Still if the problem persists, you may have to get the switch replaced.
Because a switch is not an intelligent device, nothing much can be done to troubleshoot.

Does your ISP supply _one_ or _two_ IP-addresses per account?

On each computer:
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD and press ENTER
Type IPCONFIG and press ENTER

What "IP-address" and "gateway" do you get for each computer?

No, a "driver" for the switch is not necessary, and will not help.

Instead, buy a "router" (with or without wireless capability), and rewire your network:

Cable-modem -> Ethernet-cable -> WAN-port on router

LAN-port-#1 on router -> Ethernet-cable -> Computer #1
LAN-port-#2 on router -> Ethernet-cable -> Computer #2

Turn the cable-modem off.

Turn the cable-modem on.

Turn the router on, to get one IP-address from your ISP.

Restart each computer, to get new IP-addresses for each computer.

Within the web-browser on each computer, disable "auto detect proxy".
