good test method the motor works ok

faulty up down switch
or the part/solenoid ? that reverses the current to the lift motor so they run clockwise and reverse
for up and down the stairs

wow some have remotes
could be a faulty receiver it remote to the chair

You need to install 2 9v batteries. Once you attach, unplug the chair and plug back in. The code will disappear.
