Toshiba G25-AV513 flashes a cooling system problem

Toshiba Qosmio G25-AV513 flashes a message that says 'A problem with the cooling system has ben detected...' At the same time the fan sputters. Had it cleaned and looked at but to no avail. Is it a Toshiba known software gliltch or a common Toshiba flaw? The search on the net hints at both but what should I do about it? So far no one was able to highlight any solution. please, help!

Quite interesting is that many people discovered that "glitch", especially Toshibas built in Northern areas of China fail within first months of their use, ie cooling fans. Mine hails from another batch - made in South where metal is better quality and standard are higher. As for the message, it pops up once I am in the Windows session. I think you are right the fan bearings must've worn out. Will have it looked at by some pro! Thanks!

That's a sound piece of advice, although I did not consider that seriously - that model is almost 5 years old and I did not detect any BIOS updates on the official site. But I will give your idea some thought! Thanks!

RichTheNoun had a great idea indeed - updating BIOS has taken care of that message, not too sure about the fan yet whether it is okay. Will see! But kudos to RichTheNoun again! That hint of yours proved invaluable! Get the 2008 BIOS update at csd.toshiba.com!

FIrst thing that springs to mind is: have you updated to the latest bios? First thing I would try.

I did not do a thorough search on exact machine you have but my experience tells me this is the power supply fan bearings (or possibly another fan) are going out and it needs to be replaced. I highly doubt it is a software glitch, and I would take it to a qualified repair place if you are not familiar with fixing laptops. I know that can be expensive (which is why I always recommend a full 3 yr warranty on a laptop.) The message you see, does it flash during boot, before the Operating System or after it loads up?

have you tried blowing out the internals of the notebook with compressed air? if the laptop is not actually overheating it could be a sensor problem. if that's the case you can more than likely disable these warnings in bios. hope this helps!

I hear noise coming from the back vents and I think it might be the processor fan. Is there a way to fix/clean it so that noise goes away and do I have to open it from the bottom? This is for Qosmio G25.

You probably need to replace the cooling fan, but you can try cleaning it out first. Get a can of compressed air or use an air compressor to spray pressurized air into the vent to spray dust out. If this doesn't work, you probably need to replace the fan. I actually found a guide for opening up the Qosmio G25 and replacing or cleaning the cooling fan. Check it out:

Spilled Water on Toshiba Qosmio G25-AV513

If you are pretty good at computers then you can open up the computer and see just how bad the damage is. You may need to replace the keyboard, or a few parts of he mother board. If it was water I think you would have more of a chance, but the sugar will definitely cause problems if it hit any circuit boards. Your best bet is to take out your hard drive, make it an external hard drive and get a new computer.

No hotkeys on my G25-AV513

Usually on Toshiba notebooks, they have a memory resident program on their call fkeys. If it isn't installed on your computer, you can download a new one from Toshibas support website.
