Apple were very helpfull and said I needed to phone the technical support department. The laptop in total cost me £287.95. I have been contact with the seller but either his email account bounce or he/she does check them. I have googled the drivers and the operating system but no joy. You need a retail copy of any 10.4. A quick Google gives the full price of over $200. Ebay and Craigslist are cheaper. Seems expensive. Did you get the install disks for any version of 10.4? If so, you could Archive and Install the system again and update from Apple. After working, remember to remove the Previous System.
-Ken on his 2009 early white MacBook at 10.5.7, now 25% cheaper.

All you need is a 10.4 install all the drivers for apple will be on it. This is different than a standard PC. The person you bought it from probably sold that seperate on ebay knowing you would need it and it isnt in his discription so he doesnt have to send it to you. Again any 10.4 retail cd should work for you and can be found just as cheap around the internet. My question is though does the computer not work?

    Hello

The OS is to be installed from the DVD or CD, and there are no place on the web to download this legaly...

For the drivers, there is no need for a driver CD as all drivers are included in the OS.

I would suggest a call back to the seller, or that you buy the Mac OS X Tiger separately. Apple won't give you a free DVD as it is second hand and they are not responsible of what the seller sends.

Another solution is to go to an apple shop, and ask for an OS reinstall. The best would be to ask a friend however.

Was the mac sold without any OS installed on the disk?

Apple doesnt need drivers to be installed seperatly, the osx discs have them all and installs them as you install your OSX. you need to buy the discs from ebay for your laptop like search, (ibook g4 13" osx ) and do a fresh installation

I have a grey screen and apple on my iBook G4. No cd and I don;t know where to turn.

if you or a friend have another Mac, use it to start up the iBook in Firewire mode (hold the T key on the laptop when restarting). You can reinstall the operating system, or try to simply repair the disk with Disk Utility.

If you have another MAC computer available, you can create a USB key to solve this problem:

If not, I'm afraid you will have to turn to an authorized apple service center. They will do the repair for you.

How to upgrade to 10.5

Sadly you cannot upgrade OSx above 10.4.x on a G4 based iBook.

You need an Intel processor to run OSx 10.5 and above

My ibook stays on the white screen but the apple and the spinning thing doesnt show up but i hear the chimes and i am trying to download my new os x software please help me get it to work

You may have a bad hard drive. The "chime" means that the iBook was able to power on, and the white screen means that it foung the efi or firmware, but the fact that it will not go to the apple or the spinning gear means that it cannot detect an operating system on a hard disk.

Do you have the OSX CD? Put the CD in your ibook, power it on, and hold down the "C" key. This will allow you to boot to the CD. if the hard drive is still good, then it will allow you to install, if not then it will tell you there are no hard disks available. Hope this helps.

The computer can't find an operating system. Start up from the OSX disc and check the drive with 'Disk Utility'. The system may have got damaged, or the drive may need to be repaired. Run 'First Aid'.

You need to run the disk utility program to repair disk permissions. It is in the applications folder, in utilities, first aid. If the iBook won't let you run that program, you will need to boot from the Tiger CD and run the disk utility from there.

The final revision of Tiger is 10.4.11. Once you have your system in order you will want to check for Apple updates. This can be found under the apple menu at the top of your screen or in system preferences.
