    Hi Shereena,

My washer is a stacked kenmore. The previous owners seemed to have ripped off the make and model #. It is not new enough to have a screen to display an error code. I have just unplugged it, will wait 10 minutes.

  • lucky_child1 Jul 31, 2009

    It's still not working.

  • lucky_child1 Jul 31, 2009

any more ideas? we're going away for the weekend and i'd rather not have the washer full of water.

    thanks,

    luckychild

Hi,

Your machine is locked up and will not start until you drain the water from the machine. There can be various causes as to why the machine is not draining. The main causes of this are blockages or pump failure.

You will need to pull the machine from the wall and using a bucket or suitable container remove the outlet pipe from the standpipe and allow the water to drain fully from the machine. Whilst you are there check that the drain pipe from the machine is

1) Not blocked/obstructed or pinched in any way (if connected to a sink U bend this is a troublespot for blockages so be sure to check this)

2) Check outlet pipe is free standing in the standpipe. (Check domestic drain is not backed up if this is the drainage method)

3) Some washing machines have a filter at the front of the machine that can be checked for blockages. Sometimes the filter is hidden behind a removable trim or panel at the base of the front of the machine. You can unscrew a plug from this and check the filter for blockages.

Once the last bit of water has drained out, the washing machine may now spin as the safety system for preventing a spin while water is in the machine will now recognize the water has gone and allow a spin.

Other possible obstructions could be inside the sump hose leading to the water pump. Many Hotpoint washing machines for example have a filter inside the sump hose which gets blocked.

Finally, if there is no evidence of blockage anywhere after these checks the pump itself can be faulty and if this is the case it will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.

Your condition sounds like a particle may be plugging the carb. IF you have good fuel flow to the carb, then take the carb apart and blow out any passageways. While there, drain all fuel and put in new fuel.

I think a overloaded the washer and it wouldnt spin.

Frigidaire washer will not take a overloaded tub without causing belt problems.
Unplug the washer.
Remove the 2 screws on the very bottom of the front washer panel.
Slide the front panel down slightly and remove it from the cabinet.
Inspect the belt around the motor pulley and transmission.
If it is worn at all it needs replacing.
You could plug the washer back in and set it to Spin cycle and watch for the motor to turn and the belt slipping to verify a bad belt.
Keep your hands, fingers and tools away from all moving parts.

Washer stopped working with clothes and water in it

If you try to wash too many items with the water level set to low it is hard on the drive sysem and will kick out the motor.
When the motor resets it should work again but its very bad for the motor so II would try not to do it again.
Good Luck

Washer will not spin

I fixed it yesterday. After checking the continuity of my lid switch and pressure switch and finding them ok I removed the tubing from the pressure switch and applied air (blew into it). There was a clog and blowing on it removed it for now. Apparently the pressure switch was telling the machine that the tub was full of water and wouldn't let it start the spin cycle. I ran three loads last night and it worked perfect. I may have to remove the connection on the side of the tub and clean it properly if it clogs again.
