If you hear a click when the flash should pop up, help it into the up position, turn the camera off and then on to clear the error.
If the error persists look for two thin black plastic sticks, about the size of a pencil lead sticking up from the body under the flash. They should be spring loaded so they stick up when the flash is up. check they are not stuck and if needed clean with A VERY LITTLE iso-propyle alcohol an a cotton bud.
If the camera works OK when you have manually opened the flash but the flash is stiff to move it is probably the bearing on the right hand side as you look at the camera from the front. If you have a VERY small cros point screw driver you can disassemble the flash and clean the bearing. MAKE SURE YOU NOTE WHICH SIDE ARM GOES ON WHICH SIDE AND WHICH WAY ROUND. there are three very small screws holding the flash together, 1 long and 2 short once they are removed you can prise off the flash cover (toward the front of the camera) and then ease the bearing out. Mine had rust which I removed with alcohol on a cotton bud. I wouldn't oil anything on a camera.

Nikon D5100 camera flash does not pop-up. Any suggestions?

You can't pop up the flash in the Auto mode. In this mode the camera decides whether to use the flash or not.

Try switching to one of the PSAM modes. Does the flash then pop up when you push the flash button?

I have an err 05 with my Canon 7D

The err code 05 says the same, Flash could not pop up. The manual says, switch off the camera and switch on again.it could be this does not change anything. Just a little more chance, when you switch off the camera and remove the battery. And while it is out, just charge the battery. When you replace the battery and the error reoccurs best guess you have to visit the Canon service centre.
Make sure there is no mechanical obstruction, that keeps the flash from popping up.

This is a mechanical problem probably due to some sand or such material preventing the smooth opening. Try cleaning the open flash hinges with a cloth or brush. Apply a compressed-air can spray and/or a vacuum cleaner nozzle to the area. This happened to me with the Canon Rebel model. Google for the problem specific to your camera model for other solution.

The flash up switch is not working properly. It probably just needs to be disassembled and cleaned. About a $125 repair at most shops.
Hope this helps.

The flash on my Canon EOS 400D won't work

Can you pull it up manually, Be careful when doing this but try opening it manually, it is possible that the catch for the flash is just stuck temporarily.

Pop-Up flash - Rebel xti

You will need to send the camera for servicing. There's a lever mechanism inside the flash unit which is responsible for popping up the flash. Since it is a mechanical device, it is sometimes prone to failure. I suggest not to put manual pressure to force the flash to come out, as it may cause permanent damage. Instead, send the camera for service.

Error Code 05

Just because you've turned the camera off/on, doesn't mean it's been reset. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset," holding down the menu key for 5 seconds, or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to Canon's website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.

Err 05 is when the internal flash is obstructed or the camera doesn't get an reply that the flash open sucessfuly. That should be covered in warranty if its an faulty "pop up flash." Call Canon at 1-800-OK-Canon or Email them at: https://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=SupportMailerAct&fcategoryid=215&modelid=9430

Talk to them and they will give you a more in depth stuff.

Built-in flash auto pop-up problem

Does the 'pop up' pop up? If it does and still says obstructed- closes it and pop it again If it still persists Canon customer support will advise the next move. If a repair price seems high you could perhaps get a separate flash if the camera accepts them.
