Mine is doing the same thing, boots up, 2 beeps and then shows compaq screen where you can choose esc, f2 or f12, and then goes to the hit f1 , etc..only it says f10 on the second part. I touch keyboard keys and nothing. I took RAM out and tried it again, just to see if it beeped at me, and it does the beeps it is supposed to without the RAM. I have tested the hard drive with another pc and it works on that one. It shows that it finds it by the hard drive light on this compaq presario v2000 laptop.I am getting quite an ulcer. Help!!!
    Thanks.

I am having the exact same problem. I turn on the laptop first screen shows a white compaq logo with press esc, F10, F12 then goes streight to F1 to continue F1o set up (2 beeps) then nothing> checked ram and hard drive. no luck yet

  • voldennis Jan 08, 2008

Press power button, COMPAQ logo shows up for 1/2 second wtih Press ESC to change boot order , Press F10 to enter Setup, Press F12 to boot from LAN on bottom left side of screen. It flashes on the screen so fast even with your finger on the button it doesn't respond. Then on top left side of screen Press F1 to resume, Press F10 to enter Setup.

I checked for stuck keys. I removed and replaced the RAM. Check that the HD was seated.

I will get the CD from home later but I already tried a bootable CD in the drive. It spun up but did not load. Also did not load when powered down then powered on again.

  • vathanak Jan 11, 2008

my laptop is doing the same thing. there is nothing else that displays.
could it be that something with the keyboard might have burned or
sumthing? but all the problems that the others are having i am having
    also. what can i do?

  • kelvinl Jan 26, 2008

I have the same problem, I've tried removing one of the memory madules, replaced them with known-working memory, my cd/dvd drive also spins, but the bootable XP disk doesn't load.

I may try to take it apart to remove the motherboard cmaos battery, but that's a daunting task.

HP wants $300 to fix this problem on $450 laptop. I bought a Fujitsu instead and will never buy HP again after the customer support I received. To bad HP at one time was a good company.

I have the exact same problem, hp chat support says it is the hardware does anyone have a real working soluton?

    Thanks in advance!!

  • bgt10 Feb 10, 2009

2 beeps then COMPAQ logo, then ‘Press F1 to resume and F10 to Enter SETUP” on top, nothing happens. It also flashes on the bottom as others mentioned to fast to react. HP chat responded by saying it was a hardware problem and I should take it to BEST BUY or Radio Shack, but could not tell me what the problem really is. I read somewhere it could be a battery on the motherboard. Really need help.

  • tuoncan Mar 27, 2009

I bought a new CMOS battery, replaced it and still getting the same problem.

    Other things I have done:
removed CD driver, replaced with a new hard drive, removed the RAM

Where is the bios chip located?

Posted on Oct 31, 2008

  • nunya Dec 27, 2008

I figured it out; the bios needed to be reset, so I took out the bios battery, waited, and then put it back in, and it worked.

Responding to ikenfixit, F2 does not take me to BIOS. Neither can the optical drive boot to windows. Seems the computer is not responding to any key input whatsoever.

Some bad news to let everyone who experienced this problem know, it is most likely a problem with BIOS. There is no easy fix. The BIOS chip on the motherboard needs to be unsoldered and replaced. That's according to my online chat with Compaq tech support. I am just going to trash my compaq V2000 and go get a MAC.

Just finish chating online with Compaq Tech support. The problem is most likely in the BIOS. Bad news is BIOS chip has to be removed/desoldered from the motherboard. That's not a easy fix. I am going to trash my V2000 and go get a MAC.

Responding to tat4u, Thanks for trying. Unfortunately, the problem is much worse than you think. Upon power up, there is the 2 beep, and the screen only display Compaq logo with 2 lines of text at the bottom, I have tried hitting F10, F1, F2..., no matter what key you hit, it refuses to go into BIOS setup. It only proceeds to the next screen that says Press F1 to resume, F10 to setup. A hopeless situation. I have taken the HD out and it does the exact same thing. I reseated DRAM, no effect. The only logic conclusion is BIOS chip is bad, as HP rep suggested. If it costs $300 to replace the chip, I am just going to toss the computer out.

  • rockIII Jan 14, 2009

It's the real time clock battery socket problem. Contact is loose. I soldered the socket in, the BIOS works and computer is back to life.

Does F2 take you to BIOS? If not post back... Also Esc will or should take you to boot options. Try booting from Optical drive here..

You need to provide more information.
Your computer must have displayed some other information on the screen, copy them and post back here for proper diagnosis and advise.

When u turn on pc what do u see.usually have message bottom left hand screen indicating what key to press to enter setup.
this key is for bios setup .the f 2 key you are refering to is to setup os(windows)but if hd has error you cant setup or resume.
Its not too bad and easily fixed but I need to know what is on screen on power up.
the fault is in hd and only needs os reinstalling or repairing.
2 beeps means system cant find hd(os)

who ever told u to desolder bios chip was taking the piss just tryin to fob u off..

when u enter bios you can reset to default.

to reset bios on mother board, find the rtc and remove battery for 5 mins then replace .this resets all bios(passwords, all settings factory set)battery is next to rtc and looks like a large watch battery

    I assume your online now.

so press f 10 enter bios and as you probably know you have to be quick cos its only shown briefly.

In bios check boot settings ,enable boot cd first...save settings and exit..

reboot making sure have os in cd drive.top of screen say press any key to boot from cd so press a key ....again you dont have a lot of time to decide.windows will start to boot.system will ask install windows or repair ....chooose install windows..system will check drive and find existing os and ask install or repair..at this point you can choose repair if you have installed stuff you dont want to loose otherwise choose install.in next screen delete partition ...create new partition ...format and install

What is wrong when my compaq v2000 beeps 2 times loud when I turn it on but no boot

Beep codes are unique to each brand of computer:
Compaq v2000
1 short with 1 long beep = bad bios. Must reload bios from disc.
2 short beeps = general bios failure
for more - do a google search for "v2000 Beep Codes" and go to the link for "bioscentral" - all are listed.

My Compaq V2000 beeps twice & freezes

It sounds like the RAM is either not compatable or is bad. Put the old RAM back in and try again. Also the V2000 and HP DV2000 is in recall for mother board problems.

Computer turns on, but won't work afterwords

Hi,

Nev, the two loud beeping sound of the system when turning it on could be a problem with the memory or the system board.

Try disconnecting the power and take out the battery, then press and hold the power button for 5 seconds then look for the memory comparment and reseat it.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

2 beeps & nothing on the screen

Hi Tom,

Please verify the capacity and how many memory modules you have in the system?

If your system won't turn on and get 2 beeping sounds. It is an issue with your memory (RAM) you may need to reseat the memory card. After reseating the memory card (RAM) and the issue persist and i suggest to check also the warranty of your system from your coomputer manufacturer for part replacement.

keep me posted.

regards,

Jeff

Compaq Presario

twice beep means either video card is disconnected or it's non-functional.

if it's a laptop under warranty, take it to an authorized dealer

if it's not under warranty and you are not comfortable in breaking down your laptop, then see if a local computer place can check it out

if not under warranty, and you are fairly computer savy, reseat the video board, memory, and cpu (if possible). somewhere there is a loose connection. if not working, the main board might be bad.
