Re: wpa key on modem
I have never seen a "modem" with a WPA key, so I am guessing you mean a "router".
Routers have a configuration menu that is accessible using a web browser. In those configs is where you can get your WPA key.
The documentation to your router will tell you the exact address to enter to open the configs. It is usually http://192.168.1.1 You will also need to know the routers password. If it is linksys, the default password is a blank username and "admin" for the password. But if someone setup the wireless to use a WPA key, they most likely also changes the default password. So you will need to talk to whoever set your router up for that password. If that person is non-existant, you can hard reset the router by pressing the pin sized button on back of it for a few seconds. If you do a hard reset like this, it will erase ALL settings.

No, a Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter is not required to access, and set up Xbox Live, but you will need an internet connection. If you are close enough to a modem or router, you can buy an Ethernet cord, and plug it in to both the modem/router, and firmly into your Xbox 360 console. You will either need the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, or the Ethernet cord. Ethernet cords are very cheaper, much cheaper than a Wireless Adapter, but the Wireless Adapters are much or easier to reason with. So choose wisely with money.
Although the information you've left is very vague.
I'm assuming you want to know what the WPA passcode is so you can connect to your network to get online Xbox 360?
It will be the wireless password you use to get on the internet with a laptop of sorts. If you have a 2wire gateway/modem its on the bottom of the modem in brackets usually. I'd check to see who setup your wireless router and they'll be able to get you the passcode for your wireless.
The WEP encryprion key is in your router's wireless setting.
I suggest you use WPA or WPA2 encryption instead of WEP. WPA is a later and much stronger encryption.

A red steady light on the adapter means it is ready to be connected to a wireless network. If it fails to connect then the WPA key is not correct.
WPA automatically changes keys on a frequent basis for security purposes. So you need to take note of the SSID (wireless network name) and the Wireless security settings (WPA and passphrase) from the wireless access point/router.
Once you have the wireless network settings on the access-point/router, go to the System area to enter those settings.
If all settings are correct, exit the System area. Your console should now be connected to your wireless network.
maybe. do you have internet connection in your house? if so the wireless adapter should pick up the signal. i myself have xbox 360 live and use a wireless adapter. It also might just be your adapter. lots of people use the ethernet cables that came free with the xbox and plug them into a modem. connection is more fullproof then wireless.
